Your CD analogy is not quite correct. You can listen to a CD as many times as you like, but you should not make a copy and listen to it on another stereo. Just as you can use a piece of software unlimited times on one machine, but you can't install it on another machine and use it there as well...

Hayfever does give me some irritation but fortunately I haven't had any this year suprisingly, it is strange because I seem to associate the smell of pollen/rapeseed with hayfever and having fields all around where I live means I get that quite often. Hopefully I can get through this year...

I would recommend a Manfrotto 190XPROB as a good starter tripod. I did some searching around the forums and asked questions before I bought mine and I have been pleased with it. £84 without a head might put it out of your price range though. For a head I would say that you don't need a 'ball...

Putting it in your hand luggage shouldn't be a problem. I took my D70s in my hand luggage on Easyjet from Luton-Budapest and Amsterdam-Luton. Also carried it from Heathrow-Tokyo and back again. Have fun, hope you get some good snaps.
