Otters in Shetland (pics added 22/02/2024)

John these are fantastic! Heading up to Shetland in May and can't wait to try and capture some Otters!

    Kingfisher

Thanks Sean. I know what you mean. They're nippy wee things!

    Kingfisher

Thanks for the advice. I'll have another look at them soon and see what I can do.

    Kingfisher

They're more often than not there when I'm in the hide too. These were taken last Tuesday (17th) and are the first set that I've been happy with from there. Think I'll wait a while before going back though as it's still unbelievably busy.

    Kingfisher

It certainly is. I wondered if anyone would recognise the location.

    Kingfisher

Unfortunately not. This was taken with a 500mm lens on a cropped body with a converter, so gives you some idea of the distance. They've been sat like that quite a few times when I've been there.

    Kingfisher

Thanks. Got to admit that no.3 is my pick too. the location in 6 is where they tend to do their most fishing from which is frustrating as it's just too far for decent pictures. They are certainly a test of patience!

    Kingfisher

Finally managed to bag a Kingfisher up close the other day after several blanks and at least ten hours in the hide. This time however, I opened the door and it was perched on the depth marker. Shots are taken with a Nikon D7100 paired with the Nikon 200-500 f5.6. Unfortunately the light was...

    Pine Marten

Thanks. We're quite lucky to have them relatively close by. Loch Sunart looks like a good place for them.

    Pine Marten

Thanks for all the comments so far. I've lifted the shadows on 3 and 4 as suggested. Couldn't go too far with them for fear of making them look bad. DSC_5024-2 by Calum Linnen, on Flickr DSC_4986-2 by Calum Linnen, on Flickr Let me know what you think. Calum

    Pine Marten

Thank you. They certainly are elusive. Was great to watch them though.

    Pine Marten

Spent an enjoyable but challenging evening in Highland Perthshire shooting Pine Marten the other night. The first animal showed just after 1930 with another just after 2000. I'm quite happy with the results considering I was shooting handheld at 1/60th at one point with a 500mm lens. Setup is a...

Managed to catch this last night as I got home. Thought it worked quite well. Would like to hear what others think too... DSC_9015 by Calum Linnen, on Flickr DSC_9022 by Calum Linnen, on Flickr
