You will also want to learn about brush size, hardness and transparency. There are many tutorials on the web you can find through Google and I think they are better than videos. Photoshop has a steep learning curve but stick at it and you will get there.

I assume that you have some experts setting this up :D. They must have had experiance of people photographing these events. I would ask them and then go along with what ever they say. If you turn up with some home made rig they may very well not be happy :thumbsdown:
In the Photography on the net - Canon forum a contributor is asking exactly the same question. The opinion is to get a Canon lens (if you are using a Canon that is ;) )

I have been looking at reviews of the Canon 70-300 USM IS DO zoom. Many of these say that it is soft at 300 mm. and even go so far as to say it is rubbish
Reviews are useful but can tend to hypercritical. Does anyone one here actually own one of these and what do you think about it.

You should look at the Canon 100mm macro f2.8. !!! Not so good for landscape but great for macro and portrait.
Have just got one. It is amazing and probably the sharpest lens I have ever owned.
