As said, i'd probably say 40D. But the newer 50D would be better for general 'newness' (if thats even a word??!!) and things like ISO performance. Probably be able to pick one up with only a couple of thousand shots on it as well. Since the 50D is rated for 150k shots then that means it'll have...

Same here. Although probably for different reasons. I started getting really bored with practical photography mag about 6 months into my subscription (11 months in now). Only carried it on to do this course thingy. Will be promptly ending it in september i think :D
