I'm struggling with this also, so understand where your at, try different combinations, but I'm taking photos at the moment at 1-2" away from bug. Took one of a hover fly and he was just about touching the lens. :-) like others have said a dedicated macro is best but then money comes into it...

That's pretty good price. Your right I'm finding all those issues. Got some great close ups of ladybird and hoverfly and was probably an inch from each but not ideal. I will look into that lens. So it works on for Nikon D60? And does auto focus work as well? Thanks for your help
