How to break a light bulb without smashing it

You may find that the fine filament would burn out anyway even at the lowest setting due to the oxygen it's now exposed to. As for a substance you could always try painting vape juice on the filament. Would be interesting to see results.

    Anyone been to Koln?

Been a few years since I visited, but it looks like the chocolate meuseum is still there....might appeal to a 7 year old. Head towards the river from the cathedral and its on the right hand side, we took our kids there to watch the chocolate being made and to get a dipped wafer from the...

How Not To Sell Your Gear

If it does sell I hope the buyer gives it a good clean with a wire brush & dettol.

Timelapse movement - Timelapse rail project

Hi, I'm having a go at making a slider and will be following this with interest. The electrics/mechanics side seems easy enough to sort, being a bit of a luddite on the electronic aspect makes that the tricky bit for me.

Nikon VR 70-300mm OR Nikon DX VR 55-300mm

I think you've made a good choice, the 55-300 was my first buy; and for the price you pay is excellent value.

Two air-to-airs, Three air-to-Photoshops and one Hercules

Nice, if I had to pick one as a favourite I'd go for the first Hawk shot....the Vulcan being a very close second.

Any Corel AfterShot Pro users out there?

Thanks for the additional comments, have seen it on amazon under £60, so will be getting an order in for it. Can get AfterShot and the newer PSPx5 for the same price as Lightroom.....on my budget a no-brainer!

    Sleeping Tornado

Quite a nice effect with just the back lights on, pitot looks a tad on the bent side!!

    Unexpected visitor

Bet you had fun getting him back out! We had swallows in the house last year.....fantastic to see so close up, but tricky to get out the house again. No chance of catching them, managed to get them out of opened windows without any damage to them in the end.

    Insects in flight

Was thinking the same thing, must have the patience of a saint to get those shots.

    Snowy swan

Very nice, I would be too tempted to get as close in to the swan, then end up missing the shot.

    Feeding advice?

We never see bullfinches in our garden over the winter, though plenty tip-in once the trees and shrubs start budding. We also have a sparrowhawk who can be seen late spring/early summer hunting between the gardens, though never when you have the camera out! I might just invest in a mini hide...

    Question from a newbie

I recently got the bug back, having had a 25 year break, and have to watch the pennies whilst wanting all the shiney things on offer. I got the Nikon 55-300 lens you mentioned in your first post and have to say that, for the price, it's a very nice lens. I've managed to get some nice shots...

    Macro

I looked at the cheaper tubes, but got a set of polaroids in the end, only had a little play with them so far and they work well. Will be giving them a good workout in the next few weeks hopefully.

    Looking for tripod

I noticed on another site that Giottos are bringing out a new range, the 'Silk Road' series. The profile of the centre column allows the legs to be folded in that bit more to allow for better stowage when not in use. They seem to be retailing at a simalar price to the range they are replacing...
