    35mm film to digital conversion

This has been a very useful thread for me as I've tried my old flatbed scanner which was quite slow even with Vuescan software, but I have an old X-ray viewer which I used for sorting my slides and which may just be the thing. As it uses fluorescent light, I will obviously have to set the camera...

    Critique Long Exposure at Night

Alan, I quite like that; I like the way the light trails seem to encapsulate the statue. I think it works well in mono, but not so sure about the pylons if in colour! The starbursts won't be to everybody's taste, but they do break up an otherwise featureless sky. Maybe someone will come along...

    Epsom Scanner Compatability

Thanks for that.....not unwilling to spend, but good to hear that others have had some success with it and that might be the way to go; cheaper than buying a new scanner for a few old slides! Aw ra best, Mate, Ernie

    Epsom Scanner Compatability

As you suggested, Vuescan does work, but to me is not so intuitive as Epsom's own software, but maybe OK with practice. In addition, the trial version inserts an unremoveable water mark which means having to buy the software, so it might be worthwhile looking at alternatives. Many thanks...

No it didn't, but I will have a look and see if I can find one. Thanks.

    Epsom Scanner Compatability

Hi All, I recently upgraded my computer to a Windows 8 64 bit system and wish to scan some slides using my Epsom Perfection 3200 Photo. Unfortunately, Epsom don't have a driver for this combination and I'm wondering if any of you have any suggestions, other than replacing the scanner...

    Trip down the Forth

Ah! Society Bay, picnics during the day; barbeques at night and then a bit of singing round a camp fire till all hours - great times indeed! Ernie

    Some Old Car Details

Yes, I'll go with that. Actually the last time I was there I was a bit disappointed with the selection of vehicles. It seemed as though many had been sold off probably to help keep the place afloat. To my mind the Haynes Museum in Somerset provided better photo opportunities. Ernie

    Bald eagle

Wow....that's fearsome, but the image conveys a lot of angry emotion and you've caught him / her well. Ernie

    Brecon Beacons, Wales

You've made a big effort there. Rudlin and I like 2, 3, 4, and 5, although I wonder if 2 could do with a wee bit of a straighten, even though I'm sure the landscape slopes down to the left. Good foreground interest in 3 and 4 with the streams leading into the picture, but I have to ask...

    Boat in the dying sun...

I like that a lot! For me the horizon at 50% works well with the reflection of the sunset, and the boat on thirds adds to the already peaceful scene. Ernie

    Help Please: Photomerging CS2

Since upgrading my computer and downloading another version of CS2, I am finding that I am unable to layer 2 JPG images using the Move tool. Similarly, from Bridge, neither the Photomerge or Merge for HDR seem to be working. All of this worked on the old system, albeit at a rate best measured...

    Which Nikon Flash? - Nissin DI622 Mk2 vs Metz 44 AF-1

I've always been a Metz fan and used a hammerhead for years until I thought it would be too risky to use with a digital camera and I bought a 50AF1. It is fine with my D90 although it can underexpose, as can the Nissin according to some reviewers. However, I find the menu system on the Metz...
