First attempt at home studio portraits. C&C much needed.

Thanks for all the advice, I agree completely about the tones and that's what I struggle with in photoshop, number two does look odd, I find a lot of the photos I process end up a bit green or warm. My youngest is two and her skin is naturally pale and blueish in places especially around her...

First attempt at home studio portraits. C&C much needed.

I've had a go at photographing my daughters against black and white backdrops, I'm fairly happy with the black ones for a first attempt but the white ones don't pop, they look flat and the skin tones aren't warm enough but I don't know how to warm the just the skin and not the hair and outfit...

    Your Best Shot 2017

This is my favourite taken in April, there's a large deer population on the country park nearby which is also very popular with walkers, runners, dog walkers etc so they are very used to people and it's easy to get fairly close. The only problem is they regularly venture across the road and are...

    Memory card advice

Just a quick update, I bought the memory cards that were recommended and the difference is amazing, the photos I take are ready to view immediately with no lag even when I take them in quick succession, I never realised how much a poor card affected performance. Thanks for the advice.

Beginner Finally Made the Jump to Raw

It's a revelation isn't it! I was always nervous about my editing skills but I love shooting sunrises and sunsets so lost so much detail in jpeg, I was amazed the first time I lightened the shadows in raw and saw just how much detail there was.

Need advice what first DLSR to get

I started with the D5300 and loved it, what swung it for me was the tilt screen (very handy for low down or high up macro) and the Wi-Fi. When you start looking at the lenses read the reviews for the Tokina 100mm, I was apprehensive about not using Nikon lenses but it beats the main brand ones...

When all doesn't go to plan (final image added)

I'm in the process of buying a small home studio lighting/ backdrop set up to photograph my two girls and found your sooc photograph really interesting, it's very informative to see the before and after.

    D750 or D810 ?

I spent hours researching the two earlier this year when I was in your position and went for the D750, they've both got fantastic reviews but for me and my budget I'd have been paying for things I didn't need with the 810 so I used the cash I saved towards lenses. Weight was an issue too plus...

    Memory card advice

https://www.flickr.com/gp/44895100@N05/SR9590 Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I haven't been on here for a few days, the link is to a photograph of the cards, I can't remember which is which but I know one came with an old bridge camera and I think I bought the other as a back up off eBay. The...

Advice on small home studio set up.

Sorry Soeren, I haven't been on here for a few days and didn't see your question. Sadly I don't yet have the lights, just after my original post I had an unexpected vets bill which wiped out the lighting fund and more then a couple of days ago after building it back up I went onto eBay to buy...

    Memory card advice

Thanks, at the moment I'm using a 32gb SanDisk SDHC card and the other is an 8gb Transcend sdhc one which came with my first bridge camera years ago.

    Memory card advice

Hi, I wondered if anyone could recommend a good memory card? I've got two but they were just a few quid off eBay and I've noticed that when I take photos in quick succession it takes a while until they are ready to view on my camera and I presume a better quality card would write much faster...

Advice on small home studio set up.

Thanks both I appreciate the advice. I can see the convenience of the remote now but it's double the price and funds are a factor this side of Christmas.

Advice on small home studio set up.

Thanks Garry, Funnily enough I read that article the other day! When you say a newer one will have a remote control what would it control? Sorry I know that's probably a really silly question. The kit lists a hotshoe trigger and receiver which I assume fires the flash as I press the shutter.

Advice on small home studio set up.

I've seen the similar thread running on here and read the replies but didn't want to hijack his thread. I'm in a similar position in wanting to buy equipment for taking photos of my own kids at home plus a few friends that have asked, my problem is that I'm not technically minded and despite...
