Thanks for the feedback everyone. Chris - I did have a landscape orientation shot with full cow, I just felt this was a more interesting shot overall and the portrait aspect for a bit of variety too. I'll see if I kept the others and post one for comparison if I have.

Thanks for the comments guys, I've added the straightened version above. I may revisit the bat on another frosty morning and try to get another for a more symmetrical crop to the pattern of holes. Maybe...

I don't know why you don't try the onboard flash too, especially if you can do a trial run and get someone to sit as a 'crash test dummy'. You will get harsh shadows with the raw onboard flash but if you just use a simple card deflector or even a simple piece of tissue over it to use as a...
