Did you experiment with portrait orientation? It's not obvious from the photo whether he's moving or just stationary, so portrait could work nicely. You've captured lovely fur detail in the shot and he stands out from the background well. Approximately how far away was he?

What birds or bird have you seen today – communal thread, I hope!

This is a good opportunity to update your beliefs by doing a little research into what ringing projects are for, who carries them out, and what can be learned from the data that comes out of such research. A little self-education can do wonders in nipping online arguments in the bud.

    A swim in the Park...

Lovely work to capture that sequence. The third shot is particularly fine!

Oh, snap! Might see you there. I'll be the other one with the Fuji gear. ;)

The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

From my reading in other forums, proponents of BBF often think they are Better Than You for doing so. If you don't have difficulty in keeping the shutter button half-depressed, it probably isn't worth it.

    Juvenile Cuckoo

That's a very interesting article - thanks for sharing the link! It's fascinating to look at the arms race that develops between parasite and host, where an advantage developed by the host is counteracted by developments in the parasite. For example, a host that can distinguish its own eggs from...

    Juvenile Cuckoo

Differential reproductive success explains why a behaviour or trait may spread through a population. The success of the whole species is affected by many factors—availability of food and water, availability of nesting sites, predation, competitor species, weather, life cycle...

    Juvenile Cuckoo

Wow, the size discrepancy is quite amazing. Great work for capturing this interaction! Providing food for young is a very labour-intensive process, and being able to offload that labour on to another animal—in this case, from a different species!—is going to put the parasitic animal at an...

Beautiful set of shots, particularly #9! I'm going to Bempton next week so I hope to get some photo opportunities as good as these when I'm there. :D

    DS Colour Labs

Old-ish thread, but just to add my experience: I had a set of prints made recently; they arrived in a timely manner, but four prints were missing and there was no acknowledgement from DSCL -- no note with my order, no message online, nothing. I have been exchanging messages with customer service...
