Unhappy Tokina 12-24- Repair, insurance, replace?

Used is £200- £300, depends on the retailer and whether it's a MK1 or MK2. (Although sometimes this gets ignored....) Trouble being that I absolutely want a UWA lens. If I sell on, I've still got to find a couple of hundred minimum to finance the replacement! When I viewed them, the Tokina was...

    Beginner Is my lens faulty?

Have you tried stopping down or up a little & playing with the focal lengths? I've got some older lenses (MF, but the same principles apply) & they've all got a very specific sweet-spot. Outside of this spot and the quality deteriorates nastily. (e.g. OM mount Vivitar 28-200mm with Canon...

Unhappy Tokina 12-24- Repair, insurance, replace?

If it was a one-off I'd almost agree with you, but the fact that this appears to be a well-known fault puts me off that option :( What I can't afford to be doing is paying this every three years- Repair twice or so and I've got a new (grey) 12-28.

Has anyone used the new Sigma 100-400mm?

Felt very reasonable to me. A little front-heavy, but that's the nature of the beast. No way I'd try it handheld without a chunky camera & / or battery grip on the back, but YMMV may vary there. Raceday wise, I found my tripod very useful for keeping a small area free to swing it :P My volume...

Has anyone used the new Sigma 100-400mm?

I was at Silverstone last year with the older model Sigma 100-400 (The non-sport version) With the right angle on the fencing it blurred out just fine, so I'd say you'll probably be OK.

Unhappy Tokina 12-24- Repair, insurance, replace?

Not a particularly happy chap today, as my Tokina 12-24 has decided to start dying.... I'm getting an intermittent Error 01 (50D). Had the lens a bit over three years, probably taken ~5000 pictures or so in that time, and love it, other than this death :( Never dropped or anything, in near...

    Sigma 120-400 & Alternatives

Budget is somewhere from ~£400 to ~£600. Will almost certainly be buying used, but exactly what I don't know still. To be honest, it really depends on the 'right' lens. I'm happy enough to spend a little more cash if it's worth it. LCE wanted just under £400 for the Sigma and IIRC about £600-...

    Sigma 120-400 & Alternatives

I've got tickets to the British GP, and as such, will be looking for an appropriate long lens to use. Longest current lens is a frankly atrocious 70-300, which I've had for years. Went looking in LCE in town today, and all they really had in the longer used stuff they were some Canon...

    Photography Logo's, Branding & Watermarks....

Incidentally, this reminds me of a situation I once found. (An amateur, not a pro) He'd chosen to stick a massive semi-transparent watermark right across his images, and promptly abandoned his site. Whilst there were some interesting images there, they were rendered basically useless for even...

Grey Imports - just don't understand what's going on

Read the small(er) print: Then look at the negative and neutral feedback- People complaining that their items were shipped from HK (Not the UK!), and they were either late or charged import duty & VAT. I absolutely guarantee that these will be shipped direct from HK. The UK Warehouse in the...

    Microglobe- Grey stock? (Tokina lenses)

Yeah, but I was thinking about it for a few days, and only ordered yesterday :P The honest answer is not sure as to whether it's worth the hastle of returning; That'd cost me ~£10 (SD costs), plus however much time it takes to get the refund. The only 'improvement' in the Canon MK2 version as...

    Microglobe- Grey stock? (Tokina lenses)

So, an update on this one. Definitely not grey stock, official UK Kenro warranty cards in the box, **but** it's the MK1 version. To my understanding, this was discontinued nearly three years ago to make way for the MKII (Which has now been discontinued in favor of the 12-28), so I'm in two...

    Microglobe- Grey stock? (Tokina lenses)

Anyone recent know if Microglobe are grey imports please? I've searched the forum, but can't find anything really relevant. The website header says UK Sourced stock (I'm interested in a Tokina 12-24 Canon fit), but they're over £100 cheaper than any I'm certain are UK sourced stock, and they're...

    SD Cards micro or not?

Take apart an adaptor- They're direct electrical connections ;) It'll either work or not work, nothing more to it than that. SD==> CF adaptors on the other hand are different beasties, and I wouldn't put one of those into my camera.

    Body or Glass...

To note, I'm not actually looking for a IQ improvement with either option ;) Both options are rather trying to resolve persistant niggles with the current gear. Lens wise, I've considered the Sigma & Canon 10-20 options and discounted both as they leave an 8mm gap in the middle of the lens...
