Camera Carrying when wearing a rucksack

Most top loaders have a belt loop of some kind, if you buy a rucksack with a waist band you can put the top loader on this, then push it round to your hip. It may work its way down towards your belly as you walk, so might need some velcro or a clip of some kind to keep it in place.

    70-200 - Difference between 2.8 vs 4

Hi folks, Thought a few people might be interested in this. I was debating with myself whether to buy the f/2.8 or f/4 70-200, I already owned an older f/2.8 version so decided to shoot a bunch of shots at both settings and compare them after a little bit of PP. My concern was the DOF and...

Nikon D700 self timer - focus before shot?

Yeah MF wouldn't work in the scenario I'm on about. The interval timer method seems to work perfectly actually, also makes it nice and easy to take three or four shots in case the first is no good.

Nikon D700 self timer - focus before shot?

Hi folks, Answered my own question - turns out you can use the 'interval shooting' mode to simulate this, set it to take two shots say 10 seconds apart then press start, it will shoot the first one which will be wasted, then 10 seconds later it will refocus and shoot the second one. Takes a...

Nikon D700 self timer - focus before shot?

Hi folks, Anybody know if there's a way to set a D700 so that (when shooting on timer) the camera will autofocus the moment before the shot is taken, rather than when you first press the button to initiate the self timer? Cheers, Rich

D700 AT YORKSHIRE CAMERAS SCAM BUYERS BEWARE!!!

Okay guys, few quick points worth noting here. First and foremost - THIS IS WHY YOU MUST ALWAYS BUY YOUR EXPENSIVE THINGS ON CREDIT CARD! Tattoo that statement on your head and poke out your eyeball if you ever don't. Because it provides 100% protection against this kind of scam. If you buy a...

    Time-lapse bandwagon

To get a smooth effect you need to raise the open:close ratio of the shutter. ie if you're taking one shot every 3 seconds, you're going to want a long exposure (1-1.5 seconds). Alternatively you could take a shot every second and blend them when you turn it into a movie to accomplish the same...

My sister, some cling film and flour.

Looks like a laugh, but I'm not sure if you should've made more of an effort to create a 'point' to this?

    Got my 85mm, kinda disappointed?

For close range at that DOF you need to use LiveView zoomed in and use a tripod if you want to nail the focus such that you can zoom in on a pupil at 100% like that..... If you just want to look at it normally then don't bother, but for that kind of pixel peeping it's LiveView and manual focus...

ebay Quick Strap £20 (Black Rapid clone?) any good? - UPDATE got one!

I would be surprised if that clasp fails. I know it looks weak but I'm fairly sure from my experience with metalworking that the little bugger could probably be used to hang yourself. If in doubt I would say buy one and then 'test' it... Clip it to something and jerk and pull the hell out of...

What's this little speck I'm seeing?

You might have a dead retinal pixel developing. Need new eyes to sort it out, it's a nightmare.

Photo insurance. Any experience when making a claim?

Only have one experience - I insured with Glover & Howe and dropped a bunch of gear off the side of a mountain. They asked me to send an email explaining what happened, which I did, then I just sent them a list of what I'd lost with a total price and they sent me a cheque. Very helpful people...

    Please back your photos up.

Keep the pics on your computer and back them up to an external (USB) hard drive too. Preferably don't keep the external drive connected at all times, because this reduces the risk of you accidentally deleting the backup somehow. Personally I would never bother backing up to DVD as their...

    D700, 0r D3S?

It's a shame Nikon haven't yet put the D3S sensor in a D700 type body (ie with a removeable grip and popup flash). All things considered I'd prefer the D3S over the D700 but the price doesn't justify it, unless you absolutely really definitely need the video or extra 1.5 stops of low light...

Invoicing for unauthorised image use on an xmas card?

The way I see it - it's only a copyright issue if we're talking about a professional photographer here. Copyright was designed to protect professionals from lost income due to copying. If you never had ANY intentions of making money off the picture then stop trying to abuse a practical law for...
