Canon users -are RF lenses worth the premium for hobbyists?

Those two lenses replaced a Mk1 24-70 2.8 and both a 70-200 f4 (non is) and 70-200 2.8 mk1. Definitely I’ve found AF accuracy to be much more consistent, and IQ improvements, though this could be due to the age and used condition of the older EF glass compared with the box fresh RF ones The...

Canon users -are RF lenses worth the premium for hobbyists?

I’ve been really impressed with all of the EF to RF switches I have made so far. You CAN manage without, but it feels a more harmonious partnership using the RF glass. I think optically there isn’t so much difference, but the AF feels much more snappy and accurate for me. If you can afford it...

How do you carry your gear at the circuit?

Carry all my kit in a Novo Calder40l backpack, with a Lowepro Nova 170 alongside it for extras, Camera stays monopod mounted most of the time while im trackside, with the 300 left on there if I switch to a different lens. I'll utiliser a combination of these over the course of an event...

    Media passes

All this is great info, in addition, evidence of circulation stats and more in depth readership data is being asked for in the accreditation process for some events I cover now. This is, I guess to confirm the legitimacy of the outlet that you’re working for. I’ve also been asked before for my...

    HDEW or Panamoz

FWIW my R5 came from Panamoz and I couldn’t fault the service or turnaround time. I think they’re very well regarded

    IS For Motorsport

It won’t do anything to improve panning shots. The only use IS would have in motorsport would be in the pitlane/paddock in poor lighting. Definitely not the solution. There’s a more complex answer somewhere to be found with single axis stabilisation, but in my humble opinion, your money would be...

Should I upgrade my camera and lens?

I don’t know about that body specifically but I use EF lenses with an adaptor on the r5 and there is no degradation in quality using the adaptor at all. Mind you, the RF lenses specifically for mirrorless are exceptional.

Should I upgrade my camera and lens?

I shoot motorsports on mirrorless and I know a huge number of other pros and hobbyists have made the switch to mirrorless - battery life is a little reduced compared with Dslr, but I have no problem in covering a 3 day event with four batteries in a Canon r5. I think generally the 100-400...

Who inspires me - an open thread

In the motorsport sector, people like Vladimir Rys, Darren Heath and Drew Gibson do some astounding work, which is highly regarded, there’s a guy called Barry Cantrell who has been doing some really interesting double exposure work at the track. Jared Gruber does some phenomenal cycling work -...

Non UK Marra of the kech.

It's an incredible city to explore photographically, and a lot less hassle than might be imagined. A guide would probably help in terms of locating particular shots and situations, but this is in my experience nothing that you're not able to do pretty well with a little research. Bring a sense...

    Beginner Motorsport Photography Equipment

This is a good shout. I think the 55-250mm canon lens is highly regarded for an entry level telephoto lens. I remember hearing lots of good things about this, and it looks like it can be picked up for not much more than £100

Tracking mode (EOS R5) on cars

Exactly that. It’s great for side on pans, but I find the vehicle tracking doesn’t do what I want it to a lot of the time. For that reason I predominantly stick to single point focus, using mf and vehicle tracking occasionally
