I've had another go and I think I have finally cracked it. I used Nikon D90 this time and had all the right bits with me. I used my big stopper with settings on bulb and exposure was 2 minutes and F10. I had the eye hole cover and an external remote. Conditions were over cast.

Thanks, that was handy. I just got a d90 body and the shutter count is 2695, so not bad for a second hand camera. :)

I assume they don't want the mentor to influence the photography and as they all get split up it would be difficult to give them all equal time during the process. After the fact makes more sense for many reasons.
