Passport Photograph - How Much Photoshopping Is allowed?

Why are perfect crackling around taking your own shot and editing if that's even allowed when you could just go down a photo booth for 5 or 6 quid.

How would you give a company your edited images?

This feels like troll post. No one spell to a time warp 10 years ago. Who emails images? And who either want to send or receive hundreds of megabytes of images? And who has a CD player these days? And who wants to wait an extra day or so to receive them? I'm also guessing you don't have a...

    How to fix that photo?

Personally just bin the photo. If you really want a photo of this fountain go back when the light is better, use a tripod, long exposure, maybe splash some flash in there as well. That gets rid of the noise problem, then shoot RAW, and colour balance afterwards.

Is it my lack of skill or my gear?

Honestly one of the most important skills a photographer needs is to know what is a good and a bad photo. Unfortunately a lot of photographers really seem to struggle with this. They barely see the difference between a top notch image and a very poor one. They'll say both are great. There are...

Is it my lack of skill or my gear?

Personally I'd say its a lack of both, but the most important thing to realise is that even if you went and dropped £5K on camera equipment its not really going to help very much if you don't have the skills to use it. Oh, and forget sharpening with photoshop. You need to get it sharp in camera...

Gimp or photoshop what would you recommend?

Exactly this. there are free apps you can get for your phone for example that will change a background by pressing one button, and in all honesty they do an okish job. And to use it on a little LinkedIn profile image is probably you know ok ish. But this is absolutely worlds apart from doing...

Gimp or photoshop what would you recommend?

Loads of people don't. Lots of people think it's easy. Click a couple of buttons. Done. It's one of those internet myths and very wrong. Basically if you have a very simple object. Very constrasty to the background, such as a black square in a white background then it's easy. The more you...

Gimp or photoshop what would you recommend?

Without being rude, it doesn't really sound like you know what you are doing, therefore for that reason given the cost of photoshop its overkill. Removing a background successfully however is a pretty skilled job to do successfully, you ned a very steady hand, patience and skill.

Stitching for landscapes - opinions please

Time is a major factor when clients are paying.

Stitching for landscapes - opinions please

Look at it this way. Use a wide angle. Take one shot. Assuming you get it right. Done. Barely taken you a second. Or to go through the motions of stitching. Take multiple shot, which may not look perfect and you have no real way of checking, then you have to get back to the office, run it...

    Laptop for editing?

Laptops are generally very poor equipment for editing. First hurdle to overcome is screen quality. most are S**T. But they are like that for a reason, most laptop users just want to use word, excel, internet, and want things cheap. You then need a good processor, at least an i5, i7 is...

Specific Studio Lighting - Looking for tips

Totally agree with sky. These are really nice pro images, you really need the right skillset to pull off something similar. And as he says this is definitely a 3 light setup minimum setup. I'd be 4/5 lights though straight away and quite a lot of reflectors in there too.

Options for Learning / Mastering Photography

I don't think you want to limit yourself to photographers, you more want to look at the locations work is used, especially locations where this is a filter, such as high end magazines. They only choose and use quality professional work for a reason. In contrast youtubers can talk any old crap...

Options for Learning / Mastering Photography

Whatever you do, if you truly want to master photography dont keeping looking at or aspiring to hobbyist / amateur work. And in the same manner don't use those kind of techniques. Now I'm not mocking hobbyists, there are many great ones out there, and it's unfair to generalise, but if you are...
