Interesting idea! I'll see if I have the connectivity to plug into a monitor, I can see that working nicely if so! For the moment, I've ramped up the PP in regards to the background. Hopefully this evens out the image and gets rid of the shadow, however I may have completely overdone and blown...
Hi Paul, really appreciate the breakdown of the shot! Some interesting, valuable points that I feel deserve a response:
1 - Agreed, catchlights are important and I missed them here
2 - The hard light was by design and I think would have worked better had the nose shadow closed with the cheek...
Sorry about the lack of replies, I've been suffering from a cold over the weekend. I've edited the original post with a higher quality JPEG as requested.
The settings were - ISO100, F4.0, 1/250.
Thanks for the comments so far!
Hi Craig, thank you for taking a look and taking the time to comment. Once I'm home I will be sure to upload a jpeg that hasn't been touched by Facebook's processors!
I completely agree regarding the light placement. I knew that it was "off" but I weren't entirely sure why. Thank you for...
Hi all, first time I've picked up my camera in a while. I can't seem to find willing volunteers so here I am with another self portrait.
Critique appreciated for all technical and creative considerations, both during image capture and post processing. In the mean time I'll work on trying to...
Thanks for the new comments. It's interesting that a couple of you liked the original colour version, personally I like changing the colours. I like the mood and the stylistic effect it can have, although it does seem to generate some marmite reactions.
What seems to be consistent is the kicker...
Thanks all!
ianmarsh - I quite like advertising photography. I'm always flicking through my fiancee's fashion magazines for "inspiration". I'm not sure how the wider photographic community views these. I find them quite creative but I guess some could see them as soulless, corporate images...
Thank you both for the replies. The most obvious mistake then is the split toning and messing with the colours. In an attempt to stylise the image it seems I've made it just look wrong. I guess I need to understand what I'm trying to accomplish beforehand rather than just messing with sliders...
Here's a self portrait from last week. I'd rather not shoot myself but as I can't convince the other half, I'm my only model for the time being.
Any criticism is appreciated (although focused on my photography rather than modelling please!). Also I'm interested in any preferences over the B&W...
These photos were taken during a rehearsal or 'band practice'. I would have preferred to shoot with a decent location as the conditions were poor but sometimes you have to make the best with what you have.
Thanks for looking.
Here are some final shots from a rehearsal shoot for Birmingham Death Metal band Spawned From Hate.
I'm very new to photography but the band were kind enough to let me shoot them during a rehearsal. They are pleased with the shots and will be using them for promotional purposes but I would...
