Monopod head for Swiss Arca plate?

‘Cos I’d like to have the option of something smaller and lighter than tripod and gimbal. My carbon tripod is very light, but the gimbal is pretty big and heavy. If I was going I’m carry the gimbal I might as well take the tripod as well.

Monopod head for Swiss Arca plate?

I’d like to use my monopod with my Swiss Arca plates and long lenses, but I am struggling to find a head that offers this. The only one I have found was the Benro DJ90, but strangely it wouldn’t quite tighten on any of my various brand plates (all of which work with my Wimberly gimbal). Dunno...

What was your best Wildlife shot to Date?

Some great photos. So hard to choose, but this I think that this shot may well be my favourite animal shot, up until this point I'd barely seen a badger in my life. And this is probably my favourite bird shot, a Tufted Coquette - I have technically better, cleaner hummingbird photos, but I had...

    Hummingbirds

Thanks, yeah, I was a bit like a kid in a sweet shop. Didn’t know where to pint the camera first. All show up at Asa Wright, well worth a visit.

    Sheffield Waxwings

Thanks, I think I’d agree if the bird was clamping the berry more, just looks a bit like it’s eating with its mouth open! Never happy!

    Hummingbirds

A few from Trinidad recently - such amazing little birds, I could never tire of (trying) to photograph them. Such great names too. White Chested Emerald IMGL9401 by Tim Russon, on Flickr IMGL9726 by Tim Russon, on Flickr Tufted Coquette, tiny 6cm bird. IMGL9682 by Tim Russon, on Flickr...

    Lowepro Trekker Tripod mount

It looks like Lowepro used to make an accessory called the Trekker Tripod Mount, a sort of fabric cup which attached to various parts of the bag and held the tripod feet whilst the top of the legs were secured to the bag. My Google skills have failed me and I can't find it for sale anywhere, or...

    Red Grouse

Sheffield end of Stanage Edge is usually good for grouse and with parking and a flat path. There are some amazing deer around at the moment, generally on Big Moor behind White Edge.

    Asa Wright

Thanks. I’m surprised so few people have been to Asa Wright, I thought it was kind of compulsory! I think I will keep my eye open for 500mm, I’m fit enough not to be too bothered by its weight and it would come in very handy in the UK for me. But if I don’t manage to find one then I’m sure...

    Asa Wright

I have done a search, but surprisingly didn’t find any threads on the subject: We are off to Asa Wright in Trinidad for a few nights in November, so any thoughts or tips would be appreciated. In particular I am wondering about what gear to take. I have a 1d mk4 and a 100-400 mk2 which I have...

    St Lucia Hummingbirds

Thanks a lot. I agree that the 2 purples are not so nice as the others. There's something not quite right on the first, and the second was taken in pouring rain at high ISO. It seemed very hard to capture their amazing colours on film. Oh well, next time!
