What a nice warm welcome :nono:

To the OP; ignore the above. I guess you just have to be grateful they didn't actually get away with it!

It is, but like anywhere we have a couple of 'those' members.

Now I'd best take shelter for when he returns!

No, you are in the right place, and welcome to post.

Staff Edit: responding in kind is not acceptable either

Best advice, is just to ignore what is an obvious bad attitude post like that.

Have you considered some sort of steering wheel clamp/cover in case they come back and try again?

Thanx for that, i work hard keeping it on the road, its cold, smelly, slow, noisey, uncomfortable but it makes me smile, and its amazing off road, guess some people dont appreciate these things eh,
cheers
Dave

No need to take shelter, it's christmas, Lynton is going to practice being nice, aren't you Lynton! :bat:

As for the landy, they possibly wanted it for a ram raid, or were simply just opportunists disturbed, who knows the strange things that go through the minds of such morons. At least you still have it and welcome to the forum (y)

Have you ever actually had any real dealings with Lynton, having met up with him a few times he actually is a genuinely nice guy, I suspect his post was a little tounge in cheek and he even showed the OP a little respect for his car

My youngest son has an even older one, a S2 exempt everything one made in '58. Problem is, these things are just so easy to get into and drive away, and there's no security whatever.

Have you thought about adding padlocks to the petrol cap, spare wheel and bonnet?

I have one now, thing is i have had old landy,s for a couple of years now, up untill the other nite i didnt even lock them.
If it was a nice 90 or 110 i could understand it, but the sprout is the way it is for that verry reason, i could spend a fortune making it all nice n shiney, straight panels and doors that fit, but then i wouldnt be able to use and abuse it, it doesnt turn heads and thats exactly how i want it, never mind, they obviously arnt propper landy thief,s , taling the ignition barrel out is the wronn way to steal one,
again, thanx for the warm welcome,s
Dave

That bis an early series 2, i help out in my friends land rover garage, we are busy fettling a 57/58 109 pick up, two owners from new, they were friends and its done less than 8,000 miles from new, its stood in a garage for the last 20 or so years, it just needs a bit of re-commisioning, water hoses, water pump, clutch, the brakes needed rebuilding but with it being a really early one its a mix n match of s1 and s2 parts, it even has one piece doors which i hadnt seen before,,
cheers

I had my 90 stolen a few years ago - same thing, it could actually be opened with a lolly stick. They busted up the ignition barrel and also the sterring column. Other than that, no damage. Insurance company asked me whether I wanted to have it repaired or written off (it was old)... Of course, I had it repaired.

As for the landy, they possibly wanted it for a ram raid, or were simply just opportunists disturbed, who knows the strange things that go through the minds of such morons. At least you still have it and welcome to the forum (y)
That's apparently what mine was stolen for, according to the police. They actually got caught before doing it though. Police knocked on the door and told me it had been stolen, recovered before I even knew it was gone!

Welcome to the forum by the way :)

Thanx everybody, got a barrel of ebay for £25 so when it gets here it,ll be all back to normal, starting it with a screwdriver at the min,
cheers
Dave

Lot of going about at the moment sadly.

I used to have an ex army series 3 109. The doors didn't lock, so I was always sleeping with one eye open out the window!

I have a 2000 disco 2 now.. It's hard enough getting the thing started with the key, so good luck to anyone trying to nick it!!

Older vehicles are a prime target for thieves simply because they are normally very easy to steal, ripping off the cover normally exposes the wiring and it doesn't take an auto electrician to work out what to do then. The best way to deter them on older cars is a DECENT thatcham approved steering wheel lock....

Thats why i,m a bit stumped to be honest mate, they used a slide hammer to pull the barrel out when the ignition wires are just behind the plastic cowling, d*ckhe*ds

These people get shown how to steal a car by someone else and thats how they then do it. They don't actually have an understanding of the whys etc. There was a young lad round here who used to steal Mini Metros when they were popular. He ONLY stole metros because he was shown how to and knew which coloured wires did what. So the police just went round to the area of his house whenever one went missing and arrested him. He was so stupid he had no idea how they knew who had done it and where they would be! An immobiliser is next to pointless because they will only find out that it actually has one after they have spent 30 minutes wrecking the car trying to get it to start as people stick stickers on all manner of things that don't actually have one. The physical and visual steering wheel lock (then ones that cover the steering wheel) are best as the car thieve will see it and not bother to even try.

OK you lot, its christmas, Lynton is suffering sleep deprivation which is no excuse but he has already been pulled up on the comment, can we just get on with the decking the halls and being merry bit instead of keep referring back to that comment please.

Absolutely! I thought you had to be a member for 60 days and 25 posts before you could rant! :naughty:

... or is that just classifieds access?

Anyway, welcome Dave and [still yours at the moment!] Landy

In my Landies, I used an Autolock (?), a crooked steel device with a locking clamp that goes on one side of the wheel as the tongue passes over the centre boss and through the other side. My first was an S 2a Diesel - no need for any key to start it - a slope to get it rolling would do!

Gave them up after I rolled my 90 at under the limit in a 30 zone! Took the insurance payout (as usual, way below its true value...) and got something more practical and less thirsty. Would have another TDi 90 if it wasn't for that thirst and the extra insurance, although the joys of getting axle deep have faded a bit.

Sorry for being an A1 grade arse. I'll try to place nicely...

No worries mate, like i said lastnite, we all get a little cranky sometimes, have a good xmass , Dave

Wish someone would steal my range rover, think the mpg puts them off.....

Well they must have been complete morons my old 77 S3 SWB CSW could be started with almost any key shaped piece of metal  they were not going to make a quick or quite get away :cautious:

You could open my mates old talbot alpine with half a wooden chip fork!
