Fuji X-E1/X-E2/X-E2S/X-E3 Owners Thread

Thanks Jeff, obviously extended it. I've been 'umming and 'arring. Still can't decide if I want this deal or an 18-55mm zoom.... or an X-Pro

Have you handled both the X-E1 and X-Pro1 in a shop? I did that and it was immediately obvious I wouldn't be able to get on with the X-Pro1 viewfinder as it didn't have dioptric correction, so I got the X-E1 and am very happy with it. Other people really like the dual optical/electronic viewfinder of the X-Pro1, and that and size are the main (only?) differences between the cameras. All the lenses are great, and beat using a converted manual focus lens from a different system.

Im sure they are and id love the 18-55mm f2.8-4 but theyre very expensive, its not like I can cut back on the body either as the XE-1 is cheap at the minute!
Its the one thing putting me off :(

But you can buy an dioptric correction lens for the pro,the thing with build in ones is sometimes they get knocked out,but with the screw in one for the pro don't.
I do think the XE-1 does fit better in my hands,i have very small hands :)

Haven't yet handled an X-Pro, but coming from a Canon 5D, I'm not thinking size (or weight) would be much of a problem

Interesting information, though thanks... I hadn't realised the X-Pro had no dioptric correction - I had read about people buying Nikon diopters, but not questioned much why. Time to go hunt an X-Pro down me thinks! (y)

The problem for me was that switching between optical and electronic viewfinder modes changed the required correction - I've no idea why and neither did the shop assistant, but it wasn't going to work for me like that! With the X-E1 I can just set it at one place and leave it and everything's fine. And I like the smaller body size as well...

Fair enough, the correction i needed work for both :)

The dioptres are available direct from Fuji now.

Well I got a replacement 55-200 Lens.

For me (on both 55-200 lenses I've had) the focus is very fast with selective focus points but much much slower when using multi-point focus where the camera picks focus point. Could someone else with this lens put it at 200mm and check the difference in focus speed when using selective focus and multi point focus?

Cheers!

Hi Asa, Just checked my 55-200mm in response to your post. Sorry to tell you this but there's absolutely no difference whatsoever with focus speeds using the settings that you requested when using my gear.

Hope this helps.

George.

Thanks for checking,

I'm baffled now, there is a clear difference in focus speed for me. As its two different lenses on the same body I can only assume that its something to do with the body. I have the latest firmware installed and the focus is fine for the 18-55 lens

Just taken delivery of the 35mm f1.4 and been out taking some test shots in my lunch hour - can't wait to get home now and check them out on the PC :)

I've seen some great shots in the flickr group and primarily picked this lens up for a forthcoming trip to London...

Let me just try mine :)

Right just checked mine at the 200mm

When i am on multi the lens refocus every time i press the shutter, when i am on area the lens doesn't seem to refocus so much,so its a lot quicker using area than multi.

Now if the camera is set to area in the camera menu, and i want to select my focus point if i just press the AF button on the camera, and move the select point to where i want to focus the speed is just the same.

:)

Just purchased an XE1, should be delivered tomorrow.
Been lurking on this thread as well as the OMD thread for awhile.
Downsizing from a 5D2 + L glass to something with similar IQ and a lot easier to carry around all day.

Cant wait for it to arrive.

I did just the same and even had X-pro1 and OMD at the same time for a while. I'm very happy with the Fuji set up now though, especially once the 56mm prime comes out.

I'm very happy with mine but don't expect it to be as good as your 5d2+L.

I will still reach for the dSLR for shooting family gatherings.....

But here is a pic from last week to wet your appetite...

I got the Fuji to replace 5D3 for everyday use. Now the Canon only gets used for serious work and Fuji for everything else. :)

Jeff,
lovely colours in that shot.
I have followed your photos around Gloucester docks, some lovely shots.
If you fancy a meetup some time then drop me a pm as i am only 30 mins down the road from Gloucester.
Oskar, nice photo lots for the eye to study all the detail in it.

I worked out that 95% of my shots are of static subjects.
Landscapes / Macro ( flowers etc) which is why i am ditching the 5D2 for the fuji which is smaller and lighter and doesn`t need lightning fast AF for my needs

The only dilemma now is what lens to complement the 18-55mm with.

Either buy the 14mm or wait and see how the 10-24 turns out in December.

Maybe also a 35/1.4 for the nice bokeh

The 35 and the 14 are both lovely lenses. if I'm ever "going out with my camera" I'll take both and leave the zoom at home. Only time the zoom ever sees use is when I don't know what's happening (i.e. family days out!):

If I had to pick one, I'd go the 35mm to start with.

I did use to have the Sigma 10-20 (for my Canon DSLR) and worried that the 14 would reduce my options, but to be honest I haven't noticed it at all.

Ian.

Having a look at the 14mm flickr group,I think it's going to be the 14mm,but my fav lens is still the zoom, carry it everywhere with me :)

Taken at the Shuttleworth Flying Day, Old Warden on Sunday.
Great weather, ideal flying conditions and great day out.

These were all with the 55-200

Is anyone using a grip with their X-e1? Thinking of getting one of these:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quick-Release-Plate-Camera-Bracket-Grip-for-Fujifilm-Fuji-X-E1-Tripod-Ballhead-/200935455433?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ec8afbac9, although also wondering about the proper Fuji grip - only reason for considering the the Chinese one is that it also incorporates an Arca-Swiss QR plate, and the ability to change battery and card with the plate in place.

Anyone any experience of using a grip, and any thoughts on the best one?

Im using the genuine Fuji grip, camera feels more solid, less likely to drop it and its far more comfortable. Its easy enough to remove when charging etc. Doent look out of place either.

I've a Fuji grip on my XP1 and it improves handling no end. But I have a grip for the XE1 I don't use as I have a half case on that lets me change card and battery and helps with handling. I think that if I used longer lenses more I'd want a grip for sure. But it balances fine with the smaller Fuji primes I typically use.

Thanks for the replies - looks like the Fuji grip it is - now to find someone who has it in stock.

Picked up the Xe1 from the post office this morning,
had a play with it this evening - loving it so far.
just going through the manual to learn all the functions.

Any tips on NR / sharpness settings ?
For the minute i have set it to fine jpeg / raw format to play safe
