Nikon D750 & D780

I like to have main things on the internal drive as I like to have peripherals plugged in as little as possible on my laptop. The other reason that I like to have most things on the internal drive is that time machine only backs up the internal drive (AFAIK). I do make drag and drop backups of music and photos onto external drives too just for belt and braces, although maybe not as often as I should.

Tbh I don't understand NAS and stuff like that, too complex for me ;)

Oh hell no, I'd have far too much garbage if I did ;) TBH when I get the new system I'm going to go through a bit of a culling process and I'm hoping to at least half the photos. I won't get rid of Holiday and family pics obviously, but outside of that if I'm being brutally honest I'm probably only happy with about a dozen of my photos if that.
After buying a new mac fast pricessor ssd it flew compared to my older 2011,unfortunately wanted the new 12.9 ipad pro so sold it but i think you will love the performance increase.

So 2nd outing with the 2.8e and it’s defiantly me accidentally turning the focus.

For me, moving the zoom to the front is just a flaw. Holding the lens is just not comfortable for me.

I’m not sure the reasons behind this move, if it was for more balance then I still think they got it wrong!

It’s a shame as was shooting indoor equestrian and it performed very well when I figured out the best way to hold it.

Unfortunately this become quite uncomfortable. I am thinking of shifting it on which is a shame, but I want to enjoy my lenses!!
Tbh I think it'll always bug you, and I wouldn't want to use a lens that's uncomfortable to hold. Will you get the VRII?

Don't be so hard on yourself!

My Time Machine backs up to the NAS (QNAP). I did have a 4 bay version but ended up moving on as my mate had this one going cheaply: https://www.qnap.com/en-uk/product/ts-251 It's far too sophisticated for me really and I've had to read up a fair bit around it. Initially I tried to store all of my files here and use wifi but it's just not quick enough (though I didn't boost the wifi at that time) so decided a USB3 enclosure with 2 drives (4TB) could work to keep the files stored safely but off the internal drive. I had too much data to store everything anyway locally. I rarely go back often and if I need to I plug it in along with the 27" monitor. The laptop has given me the best of both worlds.

I use the QNAP to dump everything on, including films/TV which works well with Plex etc. It can run your life for you but I honestly don't use half of the features nor understand it all. Have two versions of everything really where I probably could refine.

Have also been trying to be quite selective in recent years as to what gets saved or binned, could be better though.

What language is that you're talking? ;)

Honestly, it baffled the hell out of me at first, and some stuff still does. You have the ability to access your files remotely and that took a bit to get my head around the setup, but there's plenty of info on the net. I mainly use it with TV/Movies/Music but whilst I have the capacity may as well dump a copy of my photos on it.

Yeah I will look at the VRII and maybe keep using my F4 until then.

Annoying that they've removed the SD card slot so I need to buy an adapter now, bloody apple.
TBH, why dont you just add the camera direct to the PC/Laptop, I find it a bit faster to transfer the photos.

Go on buy it. Then in a years time when you don't like it, I'll have it :)
I'll like to try it to see if I can get on with it but I'm pretty sure the focus ring will get in the way. I can't afford it either way ;)

Never tried it, just assumed direct transfer from the SD card would be quickest?

Try it, you got nothing to lose. Let me/us know what you think.

Anyone used the 18-35 for group shots of people? I’m guessing if I use it between 28-35 it would not add too much distortion?

I’m trying to figure out whether the 18-35 can be used instead of 28mm prime in decent light.

Using a 1.7 Tele convertor on an 80-200 2.8 zoom lens, I noticed that when the camera is set to 'M' I could only pre-set the aperture and not the speed but without the tele convertor I could do either ? Is this a quirk of a TC or is it the camera protecting itself ?

70-200 F4 seemed to perform ok today but the inside shots where a bit of a struggle!

Are you not going to give the 2.8 a bit longer? I’d give it the benefit fir a while, see if you can find a way to get on with it.

Definitely! I got a Sigma 150-600C recently and it's focus/telephoto rings are opposite to my 80-200/2.8. You just have to keep reminding yourself as you shoot that the telephoto is at the front and adjust your hand accordingly.

Just thought I would do a comparison between the 2 as was just fun photos of friends!!

Are you going to persevere? Must admit that at first I wasn't overly keen on having the zoom on the front end when I bought the Tammy, but I got used to it.

Having the zoom in the front is OK, (I think my 150-600mm's like that) having the zoom ring in a position that's easily knocked is not. And to rub salt into the wounds it's apparently a very loose focus ring too making it even more easy to accidentally knock :(

Well I went out this morning for landscapes, that didn't last long as I found so very obliging Turnstones. They were very approachable and happily walking only 20cm away from me so wide angle wildlife was a must! I could turn down an opportunity like that, I've previously struggled to get within 15-20m let alone 20cm.

I've tried it previously but like the ease of removing the card and leaving the camera in the bag, especially if it was cold outside and taking into a warm house. Transfer speed is probably dependant on the speed of the memory card and the card reader/cable. If you are using a USB3 card reader it should be quite quick. I think the camera cable is USB3 speed so that should also be quite quick.

@JJ! are you not going to give the f2.8 more time? You may get the odd out of focus image because of the occasional accidental focus ring movement but surely you get more missed/unusable images from the f4 if the light is poor indoors.

Definitely every time I see these guy on the beach they won't let me get any close, they just keep a good safety perimeter!

So I don't think I posted any pics in this thread before. Thought it about time. I was gradually working through images taken over the summer and came across some that at first glance I dismissed. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea admittedly. These were all taken with the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 lens

These were taken in barns at the old abandon Tyneham village in Dorset.

In those photos they were about 70cm away. It looks like they have learnt from the gulls, they hang around picking up the crumbs from every one. I've since seen lots of people putting out crumbs of pasties as they are smaller and cuter than the gulls. The gulls don't have the same kerb appeal.

Which lightroom version have you updated to that makes it run much faster? I have two options, Classic Lightroom CC and Lightroom CC. I believe the latter is cloud based, but other than this are there any differences, especially in running speed? I don't like the idea of having the catalogues etc cloud based as I like to have a hard copy on my drive. My catalogues are synced between systems anyway as the catalogue is stored in my dropbox folder, but at least this way there's a hard copy.

The classic is the LR update, the other one is the new lightroom mobile. I’ve got 200 images to get through later so we’ll see. I thought image previews still weren’t that snappy the other day.
