High-end bridge cameras: Sony RX10, Panasonic FZ1000 etc

I agree, that P950 is doing the job getting you up close for sure Paul.

'Need some decent light with this camera, Alby, but that doesn't have to be a barrier. We get enough sun to give anyone a decent chance and on the days we don't get sun, well, I get on with chores and the like or go out and scout interesting places for birds. Can't be out all of the time taking pictures otherwise nobody would get anything else done, and, as I say, there are enough sunny days to make it viable; even up here in the North East!

The zoom does give more of a chance though as you say, I'm comparing that with the Panasonic FZ330

Here is another Starling, they look truly tropical in the right light. Taken with the RX10 iv and cropped slightly.

That's a very nice wildlife style capture Alby, good pose with some fine detail.

I been drawling over a 1 inch sensor Bridge camera for some time , I am looking at the 2nd hand market at the FZ1000 , but it appears there are Mk1 and 2 versions , how do you tell the difference ? I am a little bit bothered about buying off eBay , not having any guarantee or history etc . They seem to hold their money well . Are there other 1inch sensor Cameras out there worth me considering apart from the Panasonic and the Sony`s ? I won`t spend more than £350 and that`s pushing it . :)

From memory there isn’t much difference between the FZ1000 mk1 & mk2, and some of the changes relate to video only. The main difference is the mk2 has a touch screen. I don’t think there’s any difference in image quality.
Not sure on budget, but the FZ2000 is an excellent camera too.

Thanks for the info , the FZ2000 is coming up at twice the money on the 2nd hand market though . Does shutter count make any difference to these cameras ?

It's very unlikely there's any difference in IQ as Panasonic is still using the original 1" sensor that they started with in 2014.

'Similar to the Nikon P900 and P950. I don't think there's much difference between the cameras. A few bits and pieces added on for the P950 which I don't use anyway. On reflection, I could have saved myself a few hundred quid and bought the P900.

It's probably worth Lepus doing a quick bit of research around the internet. 'Will find the differences pretty quickly and be able to decide whether or not he/she needs those few extra bits and pieces. My guess is that it will be a similar situation to the P900/P950.

My wife spotted this female Sparrow hawk in our garden enjoying a breakfast.

Heavy crop taken at full 600mm. not brilliant, but would have been impossible without the Sony to hand.

Playing with a badly taken photo in software, original taken with the RX10 iv @ iso1600 1/640 f4 and about 2stops under exposed. It was raining and very dark.
Second photo has been cropped and run through LR DeNoise and Topaz sharpen AI. I thought all in all quite impressive for a 1" sensor.
The last has been through Topaz noise Ai and exposure lifted a bit more.

I'd say the final picture is sensational considering where you started from. This reminds me that I really need to improve my picture editing skills!
I always tend to under expose my photos as I don't like blown whites Paul, I also find it easier to edit from a darker image. Software has come a long way in the last few years.

Short-eared Owl, North East early yesterday morning, coastal marsh/rough grassland. There have been good numbers of these birds hunting during in daylight over the last couple of months, numbers presumably boosted by migrants from Scandinavia and Russia. Nikon P950.
