Hmm … I’ve been on Apple since (about) 2015. And I have certainly used a credit/debit card directly on Apple a good few times, including Apple subscriptions for extra storage.
That's probably why you've been 'validated'.

Beginning to lose my patience! I don't have a credit card and it won't recognise my driving licence!
I had to hover over SHMBO's licence for quite a time, both sides.

26.4 is causing some minor issues on my phone. Apart from the Fitbit App issue there have been a number of ‘freezes’ and ‘glitches’. Hopefully there will be another update soon!

Just been through the whole verification thing which proved to be a complete nightmare.

I don't have a credit card haven't done for over 20 years vile things. They won't accept debit card or passport just U.K driving licence.

Problem is that in Northern Ireland according to Apple anyway our licence is slightly different to the normal U.K one although that doesn't sound right to me and I can't find any mention of it online so it would not accept my licence apparently has already been raised as an issue and they are working on it.

It also mentions a a national I.D card which we also don't have in the U.K

Eventually phoned support and they did it for me as I have an Apple Account that is over 20 years old.

Surprised this isn't a big news story to be honest as the Apple discussion boards are full of posts about people having issues and also it is not yet a legal requirement for Apple to be doing this in the U.K yet.

Some people have been able to use a passport by scanning the same side twice. The same caveats apply about sufficient light and placing it on a dark background apply.

We do, but there's a price and a waiting list. Might be better for some than going the Android route.

Interesting because Apple told me themselves that there was no way for a passport to be accepted. They can accept passports from other countries they said but not the U.K.

They also said they were aware that the U.K had no national identity card. That is there because it is available elsewhere.

It's possible that the people on Reddit that have said that passports and the CitizenCard have worked are trolls or bots.

Here's the thread:

And here's a Mac Observer article on the subject:

Wife and I have one each but we pay it off automatically every month.

It's more secure than a debit card, because the limit being exceeded should block the card. Moreover, the crooks can't get access to our main accounts through it.

I know how a credit card works :D and have no need for one.

I assumed you do.

I was describing why we find one useful,

Nice to see apple have done a universal update to 18. Getting it now. Haven't touched 26 as it looks like a hot mess from a usability point of view.

I too found that to be a bit of a strange statement, but apparently there are very slight differences between DVLA UK and DVLA NI

Just updated my Mac Mini to the latest version of OS and most of my external drives were no longer showing. I have recovered all but one so far. It is not unusual for this for to happen after an update, but it is annoying.

Are they on a non-powered hub?

How many drives have you managed to connect directly to a Mac Mini? Genuinely interested for my future reference.

I have 4 external drives. I try to keep all my files, other than the system and program files, on external drives.

Two M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 NVMe in enclosures.

One Seagate One Touch portable HDD drive.

One M.2 SATA III 2280 Internal SSD which is included in a Satechi Mac Mini Hub. This is the one that I cannot currently connect. I looks like the hub has failed.

I have a Mac Mini M2 Pro.

I’ve been tempted by similar hubs for my Mac Studio, but I have heard mixed things about reliability.

I think it may be the M.2 SATA III 2280 Internal SSD container in the Satechi hub that has failed as I cannot get it to be recognised either using another enclosure or on another Mac. The SSD is being returned for testing.

Thinking its about time I started to look at swapping out my old 27" 5k Retina iMac, which is slowing down quite a bit now.

Looking to spend not much more than a grand if I can!

What are the best options for a Mac mini and screen please, any recommendations?

I have a Mac Mini M2 Pro and a BenQ 4k monitor which is fine for my purposes. The base Mac Mini M4 is supposed to be nearly as good and is cheaper. Apple have withdrawn/will withdraw the lowest spec version but there are probably still some available.

The SSD suppliers have confirmed that the SSD is faulty. They are going to send me a replacement, which is good news as the price has increased by about 300% since I bought it.

I did try to get some advice from Satechi as their website hinted at a known fault with the latest Mac OS. Complete waste of time which ended up with them saying I was out of warranty, which was obvious from the outset, and them claiming that the connecting cable had been damaged, which was false. I will not be using them again even if the fault was caused by an 3rd party insert. In my view, a typical response from a US based customer service team whose sole function seems to be protecting the company rather than helping customers. There are several other hubs available, maybe not as neat, but much cheaper and provide more connections.
