Uk mattress recommendations

So our mattress has given up. We have a super king bed but we’re struggling to decide on what to get. We have up to £800-£900 I spend. There’s a Dream shop near us, we tried one and liked it but I read a couple of long reviews about them sagging after a while and their warranty process being difficult.
I was intrigued by the Otty mattresses but your unable to try before you buy

We prefer a medium-firm mattress, not into memory foam, don’t like sinking in or feeling too “enveloped” in the bed.

Any brand suggestions??

We had a Dreams mattress that we bought many years ago that served very well - I think it depends what you prefer. I imagine they still do traditional construction mattresses? We more recently bought a new one here in Northern Ireland but it probably isn't available in England so no point in sharing details. But suffice to say it is traditional coils with memory foam topper, and is superb; mind you it cost £1300. But if you spend unto 8 hours a night on it 365 days a year, it's cheap for a good nights sleep.

I think that’s the kind of design we’re going to go for. Tried an all foam one and you sink in far too much for me.
Going to have to go around and try a few more. We’ve only ever bought cheaper ones before, makes it a lot harder having more choice

Pocket sprung for us with a natural filling pillowtop comfort layer, but it's an internal top layer not external. I do find memory foam quite good for moulding to your body shape, but I find it gets very hot.

I don't know where you live, but the best mattress I've ever had was traditional sprung, pillow topped made to order to fit a continental bed I had at the time by a little independent shop in Carlisle and to my recollection it wasn't that expensive, I don't really get on with memory foam I find them to hot and not particularly comfortable. I do like quite a hard mattress though.

Unfortunately I think it's a case of we are all different and what works well for one person doesn't suit another.
I will shortly be buying a new bed and fully appreciate your issue. I've decided to narrow it down to type e.g. coil, memory foam etc then try those in the shops to decide. I'm fortunate to have a couple of local independent shops and there's no hard sell from them.
Similarly to @lindsay I've decided to up the budget to hopefully get a decent mattress but I appreciate that may not work for everyone

You can try them out as much as you like in a shop but until you've slept on it for a few weeks you've no real idea as to whether or not it's the one for you. Having spent well north of £2,000 for a non-returnable, hand made Harrison Spinks mattress a couple of years ago which I've never really got on with I'd never buy another unless it had a lengthy free trial period with a no questions asked full refund policy. FWIW I've had a Simba mattress for the last six months and I find it very comfortable so it won't be going back - albeit it's still within the return period.

We have two Tempur mattresses which are very good but are memory foam and expensive.

I bought a Silentnight Premier Inn mattress last year which is also very good. It has several layers including a memory foam one but it doesn’t feel like a memory foam mattress.

Weve had tempur memory foam...nice and comfy but after a whilst it developed dementia on my side of the bed...im a fat bloke and we ended up with a divot that i lay in, my missus is size 8...her side looked brand new, we tried another and after a few years developed the same problem...we have an ikea matress now...half sprung half memory and we find it comfy, we have just spent a week in a boutique hotel in nerja ( costa del sol)... their beds were really really good

In the end we plumped for a higher end standard silent night mattress. We figured that way we’re not paying extra for an inbuilt topper, can flip the mattress and put our own topper on if we want. Argos had 20% off so it came to £700 in the end.
I wanted to like those new tempu, simba type mattress’s but I didn’t like feeling like I’d sunk into the bed. The one we’ve bought almost feels slightly too firm but the last one we had was giving way

I think the issue with memory foam mattresses is that only the top is memory foam, under that is standard foam and likely it gave way.
Memory foam in my own experience is warm but has zero bounce and zero support, the only thing it does is rise back into shape once the weight is off. It needs the 'normal' harder foam under it to give you any support at all. I'm on my second one and I like it fine but when this one dies I don't think I'll get another.

Aftre going on holiday and stopping in various places we where impressed with the beds.. we came home and replaced our old divan bed mattress for a super king size bed ... this is like 3 weeks ago :)

we went for a quite firm mulberry 2000 mattress aftre finding good reviews.. Cost over 1000 pounds and another 800 for fame and headboard

big firm bed and a single quilt each... massive difference :)

We haven't got space for even a queen size. :(

Having stayed at a Premier Inn whilst sorting out serious family problems away from home we found that their mattressess suited us very well.
Back at home we discovered that the same mattressess can be purchased from the Premier Inn's website.
We did the deed and are well pleased with what we now have.
