WCMUT....what cheered me up today

There is cheering on both Mackam & Geordie fronts today, the Smoggies (Middlesborough) failed again at getting back into the PL. I am disappointed Sunderland have done so well this season, was hoping for an up and down year, shame.

When they go promoted last year, one of the jokes at work was they will last 3 seasons! Autumn, Winter & Spring, but they have proved us wrong.

I'm watching or listening to every game involving Spurs (my team) and West Ham.

Great wit re 'the seasons',btw..lol

It's Middlesbrough not Middlesborough. No mention of the cheats from Southampton then.

Serves your right for watching that crap!

Something annoyed me a week or so ago - (as usual,) it was me! I'd completely forgotten to arrange my bike MOTs in plenty of time... Pinched Mrs Nod's to slip down to see the chap who does them for me to arrange the 3 tests ASAP - today (1 bike) and Thursday (the other 2).

WCMUT was the first one sailing through.

Mildly annoying that when I was dressing to get the thing down there, it was dry but I left home in very light drizzle which developed into heavier drizzle 200 yards up the road! 100% my fault for not sticking proper 'proofs on rather than the Kevlar/denim jeans.

Sods law can always creep out of the woodwork and bite you in the posterior.

Nothing to beat yourself up about!

The amount of time I've done that. I ended up buying a lightweight set of waterproofs and kept them under the rear seat on my 'Blade.

Luckily, it's only a couple of miles each way to the garage so even getting soaked wouldn't have been a massive deal.

Storage on the Bobber is... limited, although I can strap on a seat bag and a pannier but had taken them off so he could get at all the relevant parts to see them properly!

Mrs Nod came home with a next year calendar so there's a note in late April for me to extract digits and get the MOTs organized well in advance (for a change!!!)

Cheating Southampton kicked out of the Championship Playoff Final and the Boro off to Wembley.

Today's CMU was the other 2 sailing through. One did have to make a slight tack because the front brake light switch (which worked fine a couple of days ago!) needed a squirt of switch cleaner to jog its memory but works fine again now.

All I will say is that I'm an Arsenal fan, and have been quite cheery for a couple of days

Oh, and well done Villa - 3 English teams in all 3 European finals.

This was originally going to be in the WAMT thread. Time-wasters with regard to selling our house. We changed Estate Agents, and the new one brought a professional photographer, who did an excellent job. House was back on the market a couple of days later (10 days ago). 4 viewing booked for last Saturday:

Viewing 1 - Think they'd like a new-build!
Viewing 2 - A little too small (fair enough, can't get a proper feel from the online floorplan)
Viewing 3 - Didn't turn up! :headbang:
Viewing 4 - "I could see myself living here!" - Finally came back to the agent on Tuesday; Said they were considering making a offer, then "I think I'd be better off renting for a while, so I can build up a bigger deposit"

2 more viewings on Tuesday Evening:

Viewing 1 - Too small. Family of 4 looking at a 3 bed house FFS!
Viewing 2 - Were very "closed off" and were in and out in less than 5 minutes!

Then, this morning, the last viewers offered asking!

Fingers crossed for you, Marc.

WCMUT was saving more than we paid for entry to the Devon County Show today. Saved 1 1/2 tickets on a single item - a 6" paring knife in a very nice Damascus pattern with a burl wood handle. Might have bought more than enough cheese but it's all wax wrapped so will last months!

The worst thing about kidney disease is that you're not allowed hard cheese - so no tangy cheddar :( :( :(

Hard cheese turns very acidic in the body and makes the kidneys worse.....

Luckily, I apparently have the kidney function of a man in his 20s rather than my mid 60s!

You have my sympathies on the lack of cheese front - I would probably be 1/2 the man I am today without it (and chocolate!!!)

I may treat myself to a small piece from the deli counter - I can't drink either, so I will have it to celebrate Arsenal's league championship. 2 birds, one stone :ROFLMAO:

Moderation has never been my strong point!

Hard cheese turns very acidic in the body and makes the kidneys worse.....
A few decades ago I had a couple of attacks of what the hospital doctor referred to as "kidney sand".

The first one was horrible but the second merely very painful. I was told that I shouldn't eat cheese for a while so I didn't, for nearly thirty years. Now I eat cheese but I wash it down with a lot of non-alcoholic fluids and that seems to be OK.

Not being known as a green fingered person ( I kill a lot of stuff!), I have managed to move three large plants and they have not only survived the move but appear to be doing well! Time will tell! :)

I don't have kydney disease but there are a few food items that I react to and hard cheese is one of them. Acid seems to be the common denominator. I seem ok with processed cheese..eg Edam and smoked cheese slices. I really like them. I have them on holiday in Tenerife where they have German-style rye bread...Roggenbrot/Schwartzbrot (Black bread) althouygh it';s not black. They are very healthy, too. I also have a couple of thin slices of ham with it. Re hard cheeses.. no stomach problems but I feel the hot/cold like you do with 'flu , feel tired and my eyelids get moist. I recall salad cream did this to me when I was a kid..5-10 years old. When I'm asked if I have any allergies I say no,because it's not an allergy..it's a reraction. By all accounts, if I had an allergy to hard cheese I'd really know about it.

Fresh-off-the-plant strawberries. Managing to resist picking them too early and letting them develop their full flavour on the vine (as it were!) Beating the birds and squirrels to them, although the slugs have had a couple.

Following on from my WAMT yesterday. Although it started as another WAMT with no return call by 1pm and me phoning them, only to be told by the customer advisor that they couldn't access my claim and me asking to speak to a supervisor to be told he was on his lunch and would phone when he returned a 2pm. Obviously this didn't happen and a little annoyed I rang their customer complaints department who told me my complaint had been escalated and I would be getting a call from the person allocated the complaint, they did however tell me that my quotes had been approved and they had contacted the garage, I did enquire as to why they had managed to find time to contact the garage but not me, which could has saved me spending 2 hours trying to speak to someone, anyone that could tell me what was going on. Anyway I then phoned the garage to arrange the repairs and while I was speaking to them I got a call from my insurers who even held while I finished my call to the garage, Malcolm the owner even told me that they never even queried the quote or tried to get a reduction. So although it took me hours of wasted time on calls or waiting for return calls that never came it's all sorted a so hopefully soon so will my motorhome and I can continue my travels, and that's WCMUT.

Going through my Bhutan images past few weeks, doing the cull, come across a series of images taken in Ura, during the festival....Not being a people person I was somewhat rather minding my own business while 50 or so people crowded into the altar room in a house (with my OH in tow)... I see some birds in a field so I photographed them. Looking at my monitor last night I thought that bird is a bit too yellow to be a Finch or Sparrow.... Merlin Bird ID was no use but Picture Bird was... It said 'Yellow breasted Bunting'... I was sure we came across no buntings during our evening check, and looking through the checklist for Bhutan, no mention of this bird. Helm Field Guide did confirm, as did the tour guide when he saw my image - only the second time anyone in his company had actually seen one.

Feeling rather smug I am...

Today's CMU was having the Red Arrows fly straight over the house after taking off from EXT heading for the Torbay Air Show. Saw them yesterday too but then, they headed on a more Southerly route whereas today they headed up to Okehampton before dropping into the bay from the North.

Also saw the Spitfire but at a distance. Heard it and watched it taking off on FlightAware . We're about 5 miles from the airport.

ETA...

Spit's just gone right over the house on its way back to EXT. Heard it at the front and got there just in time to see its tail vanishing behind the roof, so high-tailed it through and saw it off.

There is also the Midlands Air Festival over Ragley Hall, near Alcester in Warwickshire, today and tomorrow. Down here in Kent we have had a few spitfires over today, including the one which belly landed in a field early last year.

The Reds are due to leave EXT sometime this evening (Mrs Nod has the time written down somewhere!) so we'll get another glimpse. The Spit is a BBMF one and I'm not sure what its plans are.

Great news! All doing well in their new homes. Also, one of the path side plants has started to go straight up for the sun, now that the overhanging bushes have been moved. It used to look as if it was crawling on its knees but is now proud to be alive!

It does as far as the displays go but the transits between "home" airports seems to be a bit more random! The flightpath straight after take off is also very wind direction dependent - we need a Westerly to get them overhead and even then, the Spit often turns well before getting to us (the Reds tend to climb out a bit more before heading off.)

Many years ago I was flying near Exeter when ATC asked me to orbit (circle) as the Red Arrows were about to transit the airspace. I could hear the excitement in his voice as he started speaking to each in turn, till it all started to get a bit boring. At about 8 it was sounding like 'how many more of you?' I didn't see a thing. I was flying on instruments in cloud and by about 8 I was starting to lose the plot. Still not sure how I managed to hold that one together

Probably about 25 years ago, we flew out of EXT and between check-in and departure, the Reds set off. One of the few good things about the Exeter departure area is the viewing balcony and we took full advantage!
