The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Still deciding which rabbit hole to disappear down. Still want the GFX100RF if I can find one that isn't covered in sticky crap out of the box !!!

Shortlist

GFX100RF
Q3 43

Donations to the cause gratefully received :ROFLMAO:

I absolutely love the Q3 43, that APO lens really is something ( and so it should be at the cost!) Wide Open (IMO), images can have more of that MF look than I’ve ever managed with the GFX.

But you need to be comfortable with the 43mm focal length, it’s probably slightly wider than a true 43mm.

Even though the Q3 43 is probably my favourite digital camera, if I had to only have one Q series camera it would be the regular Q3 as the focal length is just more flexible.

Ok just getting to grips with the X-T4 and processing the images in Photoshop , I have owned and used it for three or four months and my mind is drifting towards a X-Pro3 as a second body. I occasionally use a Leica M240 but it is either the Leica or the X-T4 when I am out and about what I am toying with is using the X-Pro3 with the Viltrox 9mm paired with the X-T and a short zoom with the option of just taking the X-Pro3 and 27mm f2.8 WR on the occasions that I would otherwise use the M240 and 50mm or 35mm .

I know what my answer would be if someone else asked the same question which would not be helpful, along the lines of if you can afford it give it a try.

For background - I am quite happy with the 26 Mp of the X-T4, I don't want or need 40 Mp so that rules out the X-E5.

The other option is to wait for the X-T6 and pick up a second X-T4 so pretty open ended but I know you all like kicking around these questions.

I don't like kicking about these questions any more.

There are no good answers. the X-T4 is a perfect example of a camera that takes all the good bits of what went before and adds some. It reaches a high plateau that its successors then struggle to climb from to show any significant upgrade.

I think your sentiment towards the X-Pro 3 demonstrates that you think it is worth a try.

If not then there is no bad choice as long as you have a working camera: another X-T4, an X-T5, wait for the X-T6 and then decide.

(My inclination is that with no other compelling reasons - then go for something newer on the basis that its likely repair life will be a bit further into the future).

What is the reason for wanting the X-Pro if you have the Leica?

X-t6 will likely have 40mp so you won’t want that either then

When I had the Q3 before I kept reading "it's actually closer to 26mm", never took it that seriously, then I shot with a Sigma 28mm for a while on the ZF and yes the Leica is more like 26mm for sure.

Still leaning towards the RF, please someone buy the sexy Metal Grey Q3 from Leica Manchester, save me from myself !!!

Lots of talk about the upcoming XT-6...
So, what do you want from it and what do you think it might have by way of improvements over the XT-5..?

Q3 Plus

Build Quality
Lens that goes to F1.7
Some sort of OIS
More Compact (Just!)

The RF is cool, I just wouldn't chose one over a Q3, but its personal choice

I think the 6 will just be an iteration of the 5, I suspect that the main improvements will be in AF with more AI based tracking and identification options. No doubt there will be a new film simulation, and whilst we might all want more dynamic range, I reckon it will sport the same sensor (maybe, just maybe there will be a partially stacked version X-H3??)

But it will have a higher price tag than the 5

Thanks, I kind of imagined that AF might feature - I was amazed a few days ago how many more keepers a friend with a Nikon D500 was getting from a rugby match..

I do enjoy using the Leica it has always been a way of slowing down and breathing as I tend to use it in the same way as I used the 35mm Leica M2 with mostly Canon LTM lenses on M adapters.

I am thinking that the X-Pro would both fill the same mental space as the Leica and be a companion for the X-T4 giving a degree of redundancy whilst using the same lenses. Gone are the days when I would go for a week in the Med with two systems back then it would be Canon EOS 5D and a Contax 137 or similar both with a range of lenses.

I think WEX have or had a X-Pro2 in White Chapel which I should really go and have a hands on with.

Fuji CAF is not the greatest, IMO only the X-H2S gets anywhere near the competition. An X-T4 in reality in not much better than my old X-T3 and that wasn't great. THe D500 was built for that kind of thing.

The D500 always had great AF, OK it doens't have the subject detection like current mirrorless but once locked on it would track brilliantly. Fuji aren't great at this, except maybe the H series.

I guess it depends how much image quality is a priority, Leica lenses are hard to beat. Apart from the obvious form factor is there a reason you'd want both the X-T4 and X-Pro 3? For example, if you prefer shooting with a rangefinder and/or OVF is there any need for the X-T4? (I don't know what sort of stuff you shoot so don't know how important AF and IBIS are)

Annoyingly I sold my XH2s to get the XT-5 as I wasn't doing any sporty stuff back then and wanted something smaller...

I also sold my D500 to get into Fuji..!

Have you tried the X-H2 AF?
I cannot say I notice any difference between the XH2 and XH2S wrt to AF speed. Maybe as I have not tested it in sports or wildlife I do not notice any difference.

I figured that the only way to find out was to buy a X-Pro3 which will be here on Friday, on Saturday I have a photowalk planned so by Sunday I will let you know if it was a good idea or not. :)

No I haven’t but logic says that tracking across a smaller number of pixels should be quicker (all other things being equal)
Fuji do claim that the S variant is faster at AF but neither XH2 or XH2S are as quick as my Z9, Z8, Zf, but probably about the same AF speed as my Z7 or just a tad slower.

I think that the X-H2S is fast for initial lock- on but it definitely struggles with tracking, that said it’s better than any other Fuji I’ve used

Some days it surprises me that I can use a computer even, but I did first program in 1973 on punched cards............................bought my first Fuji camera in 1982
Hmm, shouldn't you be rocking a Leica M ? All this new fangled AF nonsense must be so confusing........

Yeah but with my eyesight..................... :ROFLMAO:

I do keep having a lot of thoughts about buying an M6, but I struggle with the IQ of 35mm film, but with good quality glass and pro-film stock it can give excellent results, but I think I know in reality that I prefer the output of MF film, and for that my current 3 film cameras seem to be doing the job (Rolleiflex 2.8E, Plaubel Makina 670 and Fuji GX680)

M Digitial is very spendy, would mean selling both the Q's to fund it...................and that's not happening.

A "reporter" version ......waits for the Disney version :ROFLMAO:

They already do collaborate, the Sofort is a rebranded/rebodied Instax

I have to say that I find the X100VI to be very good.
My only whinge is the size of the hole in the camera lugs. It is impossible (for me) to easily fit a PD camera strap end. Fuji it is very poor to make the hole so small!

I don’t know any camera that you can put the anchors straight into the camera lugs, you need to attach the rings first (y)
