The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

In the comparison picture the 'face' on the first image looks noticeably warmer than the second, was the WB setting different or does one of the lenses render warmer than the other?
The original Primes 18F2, 35F1.4 and 60F2.4 have different colour rendering to the next generation 14/16/56/90 which in turn have different colour rendering to many of the later lenses

I've been really busy today but tomorrow I'm planning to take a few shots in daylight with the same ISO and settings, to make a direct comparison. As I said in the original post though, I'd be happy with either of those shots (although looking at them together, you can see that the 18mm has slightly less contrast in the centre of the frame, which every review I've seen says is standard for shooting wide open with it).

This is the "issue" with single focal length lenses, they aren't perfect for everything. I know some say that's a good thing as it forces you to look for a different angle, which is true some of the time, but at other times you just do really need a different focal length to get the shot you want/envisage.

Of course with the 18mm there'll be times when you wish you had more reach, however in this situation you can obviously just crop (within reason). With a longer lens you can always stitch images if you need a wider view, but that's only OK if you have a static scene, and I've never been able to take a shot like this without introducing paralax errors.

There's always the option of using the wide angle converter to the X100, but that's also a bit of a faff it would mean removing the lens hood and filter everytime I wanted to use the adapter.

I'm still looking for the Holy Grail, but for the most part I do enjoy using the X100VI.

The Holy Grail would be a X100 with a zoom lens. The X30 is brilliant but the tiny sensor and small battery lets it down.

The holy grail for me would be a full frame camera with 16-600mm f1.2 manual zoom lens with distance scale and proper mechanical manual focus, the autofocus of the A9 III, sensor of the A7RVI and 30fps, all within the form factor of the X100 :ROFLMAO:

I think you have drunk from the grail cup if you get that lens!

X100V used prices are ridiculously high so i'd disagree with it being the sweet spot. It's not that much more for the VI.
TBH, I hadn't factored prices into it. But maybe the prices are high because it is the sweet spot....

Thanks, you owe me £5k :ROFLMAO:

Well at least you only bought a Q3, not a Q3 and Q3 43 :ROFLMAO:

Shame they do not make a Q3 60 rather than 43 and 28 versions. 60 as in 60mm.

Some poeple are never happy, an X100 series camera with a zoom, and now a Q3 60, what next a Q3 with a zoom lens........:ROFLMAO:

Big U Turn, never fired up the X100VI so it's back in the classifieds.

Went for a Q3 instead, grab a bargain !!!

Kind of sad I won't be making any more Fuji images to share in here.
Nice

The X100 with a zoom was a logical addition to the Fuji range as they had the awesome X30. Many people expected a zoom but Fuji added the WCL-X100 and TCL-X100 supplementary lenses which work for people who work in the FF 35mm range which is good for street and some landscape but not portrait.

I can appreciate your love of the Q3 as it produces great results but if you do portraiture it does not provide great 'big head' portraits. So for my main use and type of shooting it is less awesome.

You do have the digital crop options with the Q3, although at 75mm you've only got an 8mp file and 90mm a 6mp file I believe. Also the Q3's big achilles heel (imo) is that it doesn't show the cropped view in the viewfinder, it only puts a grd there so when you're shooting at 75mm and 90mm equivalent the subject is going to be tiny in the frame.

Not entirely true, in live view with the EVF or screen, you can set it up to automatically punch in and fill the screen with the cropped perspective.

The the Q3 43 you can punch in further as you are starting from 43mm

    • 43mm (Native): 60 MP
    • 60mm: 31 MP
    • 75mm: 20 MP
    • 90mm: 14 MP
    • 120mm: 8 MP
    • 150mm: 5 MP

I’ve never shot with it in crop mode but this is what Leica themselves told me, and also what David (@Mr Perceptive ) has told me (y)

Let's get this straight, no i'm not getting one of those too !!! Stop with your subconscious placing of GAS thoughts in my head, too soon bro, too soon :ROFLMAO:

TBF it's a bit of a faff even on newer firmware but I remember on my original shooting surfers with the crop mode, works well, as does the X100VI.

Ooh, when did this change as I only emailed Leica in July? Maybe they listened to my request
Not sure but i'm on 4.1.1

So your mask has slipped, been hanging around Wetzlar like a dog outside a butchers shop have we ?

Don't forget to allow for Leica tax on anything you buy for it.

The same manufacturer of leather cases that I use charge £50 for an X100VI, £90 for a Q3, exact same design, very very slightly larger on the Q3.

I think we need to meet and have a Q3 demo day.
I cannot find a Leica dealer west of the Tamar!
There goes some more pension money!

I don't think it's unknown that I've always liked Leica and always fancied one. The Q3 has never truly been on the radar for 3 main reasons, price, lack of joystick/controls, and the fact it didn't until recently display the cropped view in the EVF/LCD. My preference would be to shoot at 35mm and I'm not a fan of using grid lines to mark the edge of the frame. I know that's how it used to be, but the 'modern way' is too ingrained in me now

Now we're down to two reasons that the Q3 isn't on the radar, price and lack of controls. If I could sell the X100VI and buy the Q3 I would, and I'd 'put up' with the lack of controls, but it would never be a substitute for my Sony so I'm not willing to sell any of that to fund a Leica (y)

So I've still got the X-E5... APC were supposed to pick it up yesterday but they didn't; Fuji are looking into it but it looks like I might have to drop it at the APC depot tomorrow... which is the same day I'm hoping my X100VI will arrive... it's a very exciting time in the Mountain household! :D
