The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I'll have to find some photos for this thread. I've a few things I've started working on, but I've actually been using the Sony a bit more because sunrise is now a nicer time of the morning and I've been out in the Escort a bit more (which the f doesn't really give me the focal length for)....

We are down along the Minehead area coastline for a few days next week though.

Like the look of this, would certainly save some weight over theh Fuji 50-140, and rare for SIgma X-mount lenses it has an aperture ring :)

Will definitely be watching/reading reviews with interest.
Me too, especially if it's a good bit lighter - my 50-140 doesn't get much use because it's just too heavy to lug around for general use..

Couple of observations recently, having had a Q3 and an X100VI sitting side by side the build quality of the Fuji is right up there, personally I see no difference and the X100 is prettier. It's certainly a case of diminishing returns. If they bring out an RF II with IBIS the Q3 would be harder to justify.

I’d agree that the build of the X100VI is good, personally though I think that Q3 is better, some of that is down to the battery design which is well thought out, and the Q3 memory card flap is much more robust than its Japanese competitors. Both are built better than the RF, that’s the way it feels.

X-T build peaked with the X-T3 (IMO)

Definitely agree with that comment.
The XT4 and XT5 may have better functionality and battery life but do not feel as solid. My only criticism is the on/off switch and shutter release feel cheap compared to the rest of the body. The XH series of cameras have a better release and switch.

I thought the Q3 felt more solid too. The X100VI had very good build quality but I wouldn’t say it’s great. The dials have a slightly sharp edge to them, the door for the ports feels a bit cheap, as does the joystick. I’m nit picking of course, but these things aren’t cheap. The A1 II on the other hand feels like a very solid piece of kit all round, even the multi angle screen. I thought that might feel a bit cheap with it being plastic but it doesn’t imo.

I've been using X Raw studio for several months now but all of a sudden it just crashes most of the time so I can't use it. Sometimes if I perservere long enough by keep opening it every time it crashes I can eventually get it to process an image but today I can't even open a folder without it crashing. I've not updated anything so I don't understand what's causing it.

I'm using Mac OS Tahoe 26.5.1. I can't find anything online about compatiability issues, and the fact it's been working up until recently would suggest there aren't any. I've tried opening the app using Rosetta but that doesn't work either.

Does anyone know what the issue could be and how to fix it please?

EDIT: I think I've figured it out, it's creashing when I open folders that also have some of my Sony raw files in it.

It's less than 1/2 the weight !

Who's going to be first with the brave pills and pre-ordering it?
I've been itching to push the button on a pre-owned 50-140 from mpb, but for my usage, this may be better.

I'm going to stick with my 50-140 for these reasons

  • The 50-140 is an internal zoom and I use it in all weathers and am comfortable with the weather sealing
  • All my existing ND filters (motorpsort panning) are 72mm
  • It supports the 1.4TC
  • It has that extra bit of reach
  • I already have the lens!!!

Yeah, If I already had the 50-140 I wouldn't be considering changing to it either.
It is the better lens.

However, for those of us without one, it is tempting if it meets the use cases.
Typically I wouldn't be shooting in the rain. The f2.8 is an improvement on my 70-200L F4 (albeit that may only be marginal when you consider FF vs APSC) and for people shots, the corner softness isn't really an issue.
£700 new vs £700-800 2nd hand / £1450 new isn't chump change.
The 410g vs 995g is quite a saving too.
Though, the hankering for the Fuji glass would still remain...

Me too (although I don't shoot motorsport).

The XF50-140’s seemed to have firmed up in price, I paid £650 for mine last December from Park Cameras (excellent grading) - no box

Surprising since a Mk2 50-140 has been rumoured for some time

I missed your earlier post about it's weight, which is what stops me using my Fuji 50-140 most of the time.
I may have to read a few reviews but I may very well be swapping over to the Sigma.

Edit to add that it would have to have an aperture ring..

I think the only advantage of the Fuji lens is the slightly longer focal length and the ability to take a teleconverter.

And the fact that it’s an internal zoom (from initial reviews if the Sigma, I feel that the Fuji lens may have the upper hand with regard to IQ)
Tbf I haven’t seen image quality comparisons yet (I should stop looking at Fuji related gear). I can’t imagine the sigma being poor. The simple fact of the size difference being so great is really appealing.

There’s a lot of online comments about vignetting and soft towards the corners, this might have been a result of it being too compact (55mm filter).

I don’t think it’s ‘poor’ per se, but my initial thoughts are that it’s probably not as good as the Fuji

With a mk2 Fuji 50-140 heavily in the rumours, and given the size reduction of the 16-55mm mk2, I think that Fuji might be holding an ace up their sleeve.

Ok, I’ll have a closer look. Is that it being soft in the corner wide open or generally?

I never had an issue with the image quality of the 50-140, but there’s definitely scope to reduce some size and weight now. If I were to keep my h1 I would potentially be in the market for a used one if the prices fell enough.

I think prices will fall when Fuji release the mk2, in the last year they (50-140) prices have firmed up slightly but I can’t see that lasting.

Comments about softness towards edges were general not just wide open.
