I have just been going through my photos from my sons birthday party. He is 4 and we took loads of his friends to a giant soft play area they loved it and it had lots of great moments for photos but looking at the results I have got some terrible blurred shots the lighting was poor and I knew that so used some flash in some pics and others i boosted the iso.

I know what I have done wrong looking at each one but really wanted to write this post as I am more annoyed with myself as after a few years of practicing daily my camera rarely leaves my side, and reading lots of books I can see a great improvement in my pictures but then I do something like this.

I am sure a lot of people have these moments I work in IT and used t train and always laughed when people said I was doing so well then... but it has really knocked my confidence and I was meant to be doing some photos for a friend as a favour this weekend of their kids. There are a lot of people on here I am very impressed with their work do yu guys have days like this???

I think everybody has days like this even the professionals, think the best thing you can do now is just go out and take some more photographs to divert your attention away from where youve gone wrong, as well as to give you a little bit of confidence. At least you will now know what to do next time should the situation arise

:agree: sound advice. Get back out there and carry on shooting!

Yes. :) Of course I still make mistakes, I'm a human and anything to do with humans goes wrong from time to time. :)

Two pieces of advice that might save you from getting it quite so bad next time.

1) you are doing it anyway and that is to shoot all the time no matter what. It's amazing what you learn shooting daft stuff :)

2) If you are ever in a position where you want to guarantee the shots, check, check and check again. I don't mean stand there chimping all day but certainly your first few shots are done to "narrow in" on the settings you then use for the rest of the shoot. If your shots were blurred you probably did not have a fast enough shutter speed. So next time check your shutter speed is high enough befor continuing.

You can learn a lot and take something from this one though. Look through your shots and check the shutter speeds and see which ones were suffering, that will guide you to the right shutter speed next time out.

Hope that helps :)

Hey GregD, we all have days like those :'(

I recently travelled to Holland to support my grandson at an international judo competition. His coach asked me to take loads of pictures so they could use some in their promotional material for next year. I shot about 170 ... and got about 10 that weren't either blurred or riddled with noise. Very disappointing for all concerned but I'll be at the next competition to try again - this time with a faster lens :)

Just don't give up

as always the reason I love it here good avice and always makes you feel better when other people have these days i have managed to rescue some with photoshop syill blurred but fixed lighting issues to an extent that will do for now. :)

I find that the biggest mistakes are made when I cannot retake the shots. Pictures at the local park or snapshots that do not really matter all go fine. When I have to take important pictures such as at my granddaughters christening, when the flash decided to play up in the church and it was chucking it down outside, it all goes pear shaped.

Oh good, not just me then....

I regularly want to quit because my photos aren't exactly what I want them to be.

lol...my photos are very seldom exactly what I want them to be...close sometimes - very close even... :D

I'd say the majority are what I'd hoped they'll be...
i.e. Good Enough...

had a bad time myself only the other night, at my daughters uni catwalk show
flash spoiled the lighting and lost the mood, so turn it off for the rest of the night, 50% of my shots were no good. but I did get some nice ones and I was happy with them. In difficult lighting a few good shot is better than non.

You've been taking photos for a few years, and occasionally get it wrong. I've been taking photos for 30+ years and still get it wrong! Welcome to the club. :) :D
