The paper clips is the better of the two imo, brighter with vibrant colours.
The 100s & 1000s looks a little dull and is also lacking strong colours?

I need to get a decent macro lens & start playing.

I like the clips, but I think they'd be better with a better DOF. You could try taking a set of pictures at different focal points and run them through something like Helicon Focus.
