105mm Circular Polariser - Lee or Sigma?

Looking for above said polariser to fit my new Lee filter system (using 105mm adaptor ring of course). The Sigma ones are on average £30-£40 cheaper but is that a false saving? Which circular polariser is most effective?

The Lee C-Pol is very thick and will vignette on full frame cameras with wide lenses.

The Sigma 105mm is thinner - ideally look for a Heliopan or B&W - these two are both thinner and you can eak out another 2 or 3mm with ultra wide angles using these vs Lee.
 
ive got the sigma, my reasoning.. cost and youd expect sigma to know how to build a filter to work nicely with the 120-300 its fitting to..

havent used it in anger yet though. comes in a nice leather pouch if that helps :D

I'd expect Sigma to know how to build a lens properly the first time- experience tells me otherwise:lol:

105 CPL- B&W all the way.

Everyone's experience of Sigma is different. My experience tells me that I'd rather be using a lens than running around trying to get it sorted.

There's no denying Sigma have QC issues- in fact I'm pretty sure I saw they have recently recruited someone to sort this out- although can I find it when I need it!:lol:

Not that Canon or Nikon don't produce duff lenses but Sigma have a higher propensity to have assembly problems.
 
Jury's out somewhat then but people seem to like the B+W polarisers. Is this the one I'm after? Seems like a very reasonable price (even with the £27 postage)? Anyone used this firm? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/10873-REG/B_W_65016142_105mm_Kaeseman_Circular_Polarizing.html

This filter will slot into the Lee 105mm adaptor ring presumably (to attach to the front of my foundation kit holder)?

I should have said that this for wide angle lenses (Sigma 10-20mm and Sigma 17-70) on an APC sensor (Canon 450d). So far no problems with said Sigma lenses but have only used them a couple of times each since buying a month ago.

One review says it's "too thick". Check how thick it is compared to a heliopan.
Having said that, the Lee one is very thick too.

I've got the B&W 105mm and it works very well.
 
Hmmm, I generally feel warned off the Sigma and Lee ones so it's between B+W and Heliopan SLIM MOUNT. The fact that Heliopan does have a special thin version and is a little less expensive than the B+W, means that I'm veering that way. Anyone got direct experience of the Heliopan?

My head is spinning somewhat!

Btw, Ceejay, thanks for the link but you actually linked to the linear polarizer rather than the circular one :-)
 
OOPS !!!

Oh well the Circular are cheaper at £122 + vat
You will also need if you don't already have it is W/A ring for the holder to go on the lens, at least that's what I use on a Canon 10-22mm lens. Therefore no vignetting. I sometimes use an oversize Pol. filter from B/W but it then gets really expensive about £300 just for the filter !

i dont see why you should to be honest.. people mentioning sigmas QC are referencing more so the potential for front/back mechanical focus issues. a filter is only a single sheet of glass, the quality of which cannot be faulted in sigmas lenses.

the sigma 105mm CP filter is solid and feels very well made.
 
I saw a Heliospan slim mount one on ebay for £125 (+£6 postage) so I went for that one. I'll let you know how I got on. Thanks for the advice everyone!
 
Fairly impressed with the Heliopan so far, no real problems. The numbered measurements on the perimiter are a real help too.
