hehe for all the slagging off of the mkIII gets... One of mine has been snapped up![]()
Nice...although like he says - the light that day in Candlestick Park was no real test of a professional camera body's ability to focus in tricky situations...
Cue some shots from a shi'itey day shooting footy in Ye Olde England's grey and peasant land...
The ability to cut-through persistent drizzle illuminated/back-lit by floodlights for a start...

website in op said:To be brutally honest, I found the Canon EOS-1D Mark III to be a complete disaster. I consider it to be the biggest lemon professional 35mm camera in modern photographic history. I have a considerable investment in Canon cameras and lenses, and was reluctant to jump-ship to Nikon.
But its not a 35mm camera... :shrugs:
LOL you are welcome to get one before me, I want to see real user reviews before I nip over to the states to buy one.I panicked when I saw this thread... thought someone had got one before me hahahahaha

Canon have not given any promised delivery dates, they just said that they expect the camera to start shipping in early January. I am sorry I can't be more specific but I think it is best we be honest.
Just had word from the shop I am buying from.. they have 7th Jan listed... But they emailed me 2 minutes ago saying...
Not happy![]()

they've recalled them already because of dodgy AF![]()

As a fully satisfied 1D3 owner for the last 12 months, with no AF problems, I couldn't see anything to get excited about with the 1D4 spec sheet, not for that price. It appears the Digital Rev team isn't blown away either.Like Malla i will waite a wile .

Ha, ha, it says the high ISO isn't as good as the D3s
According to these people they ahve the camera in stock now at 3.800 quid.. Spoke to them by live chat (yeagh i know) and they say in stock but online sales only.... cant collect even though 20 mins away .. hmmm suspect...also del is 3-8 working days.. again suspect...

According to another review website ....
"Registered address is a service station in Chorley"
Way too techie for me, only thing i know is the D3 blew the MK3 out of the water by at least 1 full stop and more than likely nearer 2 stops, and apparently the D3s will do the same to the MK4 but like you say you pays your money you makes your choice.D3s sensor is 36x23.9mm.
1D4 sensor is 27.9x18.6mm.
D3s sensor has an area 1.66X greater than the 1D3 and will be able to gather/record more light, provided you feed it with a lens of 1.29X the focal length and equal aperture.
So you can shoot with the Canon using, for example a 400/2.8 lens, but for the Nikon you'd need glass of 516/2.8 to realise the advantage. That doesn't exist, so you'd have to use a 500/4 and bump the ISO by one full stop. Advantage lost. Also, since I don't know Nikon's AF system, would there be a decrease in AF performance with an f/4 lens vs f/2.8, as there would be with Canon? Alternatively you could shoot with a 400/2.8 and then crop, but that way you get only 7.2MP on your subject/scene vs 16MP from the Canon and you'd lose (all?) the ISO/noise advantage.
It really is not cut and dried. You pays your money.....
