1Dmk4 looks good.

Saw this on Potn, looks like they have solved some problems. Should be good for the price you are paying for it.

Look encouraging. I know a photographer that had a pre-production body. He was impressed and could only shoot jpgs as they didn't let him have RAW conversion software.

I panicked when I saw this thread... thought someone had got one before me hahahahaha

Just so desperate to get mine.. Supposedly arrive 7th at store and I should get by weekend of 9th jan with a bit of luck... can't wait :)

Sent the Mk3 to a loving home ;) ;)  (hint hint lol)

hehe for all the slagging off of the mkIII gets... One of mine has been snapped up :)

rather than send i should have used the word "donate" lol

one day ill have one!!

Nice...although like he says - the light that day in Candlestick Park was no real test of a professional camera body's ability to focus in tricky situations...

Cue some shots from a shi'itey day shooting footy in Ye Olde England's grey and peasant land...
The ability to cut-through persistent drizzle illuminated/back-lit by floodlights for a start...

does look good, about time too :)

I will be out to every game I can in the first week.. probably not for pay... just to get some games under belt wiht it.. make sure lenses are calibrated and give it a good test...Footy/Rugby Grounds where the MKIII struggles at iso 6400 f2.8 and 250 shutter.... I will deffo put it throuhg it paces:)

Who says that teleconvertors make for soft images :D? I do love the way that Canons handle colour, too. Will be interesting to see what else the camera can do :).

As already acknowledged though, those conditions are not exactly 'challenging' for even the most modest DSLR - it just requires good glass .

Yes but when the mk3 come out even in good light the camera give problems.

To be brutally honest, I found the Canon EOS-1D Mark III to be a complete disaster. I consider it to be the biggest lemon professional 35mm camera in modern photographic history. I have a considerable investment in Canon cameras and lenses, and was reluctant to jump-ship to Nikon.

But its not a 35mm camera...

LOL you are welcome to get one before me, I want to see real user reviews before I nip over to the states to buy one.:D

Just had word from the shop I am buying from.. they have 7th Jan listed... But they emailed me 2 minutes ago saying...

Canon have not given any promised delivery dates, they just said that they expect the camera to start shipping in early January. I am sorry I can't be more specific but I think it is best we be honest.

Not happy :(

Bad Gary :D

To be fair I don't think there's any chance at all of this one being sub-standard. They've already lost a lot of users and a lot will be waiting to see how this one performs before making that decision. Canon just can't afford to get it wrong.

This is almost certainly going to be the best camera Canon have ever produced :)

google them for reviews ;) I'd be cautious

As a fully satisfied 1D3 owner for the last 12 months, with no AF problems, I couldn't see anything to get excited about with the 1D4 spec sheet, not for that price. It appears the Digital Rev team isn't blown away either.

I'm not saying it doesn't improve on the 1D3, but I think £3,000 would be a more realistic price, given the price points of the 1D3 and 7D today. Christ! You could pick up a brand new 1D3 and 7D for less than the price of a single 1D4 - I paid £3370 in total (£2200 + £1170) for mine, leaving more than enough left over to grab a couple of 580EX IIs as well and still have change. That 1D4 really ought to be something pretty darned special for that money.

For those who think it's worth the money, good luck to you. I hope it's trouble free and proves to be worth every penny.

Im going to wait until the summer, by then prices will have stabilised and any gremlins should have been picked up. Also i really want to see some real world shots, particularly in poor lighting before i stump up 7-8K

Ha, ha, it says the high ISO isn't as good as the D3s

The following is just a bit of simple maths and not based on any measured ISO/noise performance differences between the sensors. Consider it just something to think about rather than hard facts....

The D3s sensor is 36x23.9mm.
The 1D4 sensor is 27.9x18.6mm.
The D3s sensor has an area 1.66X greater than the 1D3 and will be able to gather/record more light, provided you feed it with a lens of 1.29X the focal length and equal aperture.

So you can shoot with the Canon using, for example a 400/2.8 lens, but for the Nikon you'd need glass of 516/2.8 to realise the advantage. That doesn't exist, so you'd have to use a 500/4 and bump the ISO by one full stop. Advantage lost. Also, since I don't know Nikon's AF system, would there be a decrease in AF performance with an f/4 lens vs f/2.8, as there would be with Canon?

Alternatively you could shoot both cameras with a 400/2.8 and then crop the 3Ds to match the 1D4, but that way you get only 7.2MP on your subject/scene from the Nikon vs 16MP from the Canon and you'd lose (all/most/some of) the ISO/noise advantage.

Now compare a 600/4 on the Canon against an 800/5.6 from Nikon. Oh, hang on, I can't find the Nikon listed for sale in the UK. I can't find it on the Nikon website either.

It really is not cut and dried. You pays your money.....

According to another review website ....

"Registered address is a service station in Chorley"

hahahaha like i said.. suspect... wont deal with anyone who only accepts online sales when I am 20 minutes down the rd.. Also i dont believe they ahve mkIVs in stock.. I just dont see how they could have.

Way too techie for me, only thing i know is the D3 blew the MK3 out of the water by at least 1 full stop and more than likely nearer 2 stops, and apparently the D3s will do the same to the MK4 but like you say you pays your money you makes your choice.

My only regret over switching to Nikon is the loss of the 1.3x crop factor but full frame does give better images than crop, i now tend to keep my 1.4x on my 300 lens and shoot at f/4 all the time right up to ISO 3200 which in my opinion is better than the MK3 at ISO 1600 above that i take it off and shoot f/2.8
