Im looking at spending £500 £700 on a camera to take pics of fungi, trees, leaves, flowers, etc in detail, I dont want a SLR. I was looking at the canon G11 but after reading a thread on here maby there not so good. I dont know much about cameras so any idears?

If you don't want a DSLR, how about a bridge? Such as Panasonic FZ38, Canon SX 1 IS. Or the new breed of compact DSLRs such as Panasonic GH1 and 'compact interchangeable lens' Panasonic GF1/Olympus Pen EP1/EP2?

go for a bridge..then you can compose and see properly what you are taking and the effects of lighting...
i think all the new non dslr's are fab but use the whole of the back for a tv screen
which i cant get on with
