Gutted, just taken a couple of images with the camera, tried to open the RAW files in PS3 and guess what, no support for these files.

Does anyone have any idea how long Adobe take to sort out their plug ins for new raw files. Cant afford CS4 at the moment.

You could just load up Canons' DPP, should get you through till software update

Doesn't Adobe Camera Raw 5.2 let you open the files.

Oooh, just realised 5.2 is for CS4 and Lightroom 2.

I'd stick with DPP for now

That would be because Adobe Camera RAW in CS3 doesn't recognise the 5D MkII. And as far as I'm aware Adobe haven't, and possibly aren't, going to release Camera RAW 5.2 for CS3, only CS4 and Lightroom 2.2.

I think for now you'll need to use the Adobe DNG Converter and convert your 5D MkII files into a format that can be read by CS3.

The Adobe Camera RAW utility that supports the 5D2 is not compatible with CS3 and won't be made available for CS3 (or so I've read)

As stated Ed, it's either update to CS4 or go down the DNG route.

Bob

should be able to get an upgrade to CS4 for 169 quid i think, or stick with the software that came with the camera. It is not very good that Adobe just cease taking care of customers who have the older releases :(

Filthy Robbing *******s!!!

Gary.

Not really, though, are they? They're offering a solution to convert your RAW's to DNG's (An anal way of getting your images to work, I agree) But I'd rather Adobe spent the time developing new updates on new products, rather than past products.

that is soooooooooooooo dirty!! cs4 plot to scam!!!!!!

though yea time spent on new developments are probably better.....gulp.

They could jusy as easily get it working on CS3 I bet. A big scam.

Gary.

Works with elements 6 so cant see why they cant release for CS3

How long do you keep this up for, though? I figure anyone with enough disposable income to purchase a 5D MkII & Glass, can afford a £150 upgrade, or a £90 Lightroom License.

Irrespective of whether than can 'easily' do it, I still think there has to be a cut off, somewhere.

Well, I think Software should be fully supported for a MINIMUM of 12 months after purchase, and therefore, unless CS4 has been out a year, I would say CS3 still deserves attention.

Its the principal of the matter. I dunno what CS3 costs brand new, but if I bought it a few weeks prior to CS4, and then found out they were not fully supporting it when my new cam arrived, I would be gutted.

You can get a free upgrade if you bought CS3 a few weeks prior to CS4.

But your point still stands, and I understand. A little more support on previous releases is warranted, at least for a couple months. I still think the free DNG converter offered is a substantial middle ground though!

I think they should support the 1 previous edition to the current edition, so When CS5 comes out support for CS3 stops, and moves onto CS4 that way it would keep more of their customers hapy that they arent bullied into an upgrade immediately. A lot of software companies do it this way too.

I have to agree, anyone who is spending this sort of money on a camera (which will be superseded faster than adobe's software) and requires what photoshop has to offer should budget for the required upgrade in software. people think nothing of purchasing faster memory cards or better glass to help get the best out of their equipment, but the software is also part of this path.

I understand if you have just bought cs3 before cs4 was available but it has been publicized for over a year that cs4 was coming out.

Just my 2 pence worth.

so sick of hearing about stupid credit crunch!! i think if people would stop saying it after every sentence, the 'feeling' wouldn't be so bad. i've spoken with various friends who are business owners (different fields) and they've all been saying this winter has been a record high in profits. i think the best thing to do would be for the media, news and fellow citizens to stop thinking of it so much and instead put it behind and try and move forward.

just me :D:D:D

No one person deserves to loose their job. However, christmas or not, if a Company acts like a greedy monopolistic gob*****e, then yes, it deserves a fright. Treat your customers right, first rule of business.

Gary.

LOL. Sorry, but I find that hard to take seriously.

yes.... but there are sooooo many customs who don't know when to stop!

:D:D

just past experiences in sales

well, my partner's business has had a record winter.... strange i know, i didnt believe it, but cant argue! some are getting hit hardest, but i think as usual its spiraling waayyyy outa control!

Don't apologise, I'm not a very serious person ;)

One this that seriously upsets me though, are money grabbing gits holding people over a barrel. Slight exaggeration in the case we have here, but still - CS3 cost a hell of a lot only a few months ago. Those customers deserbe the SAME respect as CS4 adopters. Seriously, they do.

Gary.

hmmm but have to agree with the 'out with the old, in with the new' ...gonna get a top notch camera, maybe same for the software and compatible other components, such as fast memory cards.

I really don't understand your point? This happens with every major vendor I know. Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, Canon, Nikon, bla bla bla.

It's the nature of the business. Really, what is it in particular that has you so strung up?
