Monthly 2014 ETC: MadAlan

that water splash is a beaut Alan, please don;t tell me it's Photoshop to the rescue again this time (as in your zoom burst flower).......

Interesting shapes, contrasting colours, and a perfect sphere to top it all off.

Definitely not Photoshop Graham. Thanks for dropping by mate. Thought i was all alone :(

I used a black paint tray for the water with the flash reflected off a pink ring binder. Then i added the blue with a bright blue ring binder.
I was a little disappointed with the focus. Just couldn't get it right despite setting up and putting it into manual.

So,

Out with the kit lens and in with the 35mm prime
Out with the black paint tray and in with a clear plastic box
Out with the idea of reflecting the flash and in with direct gelled flash

Tis a bit quiet in here - maybe the merging of the 12's, 52's, and 365's into one forum will help.....

At least there's more going on in here than in Brian's thread. :cow:

Keep at it though - nice job on the last too, looks like a crown, like the blue, and good freeze of the splash. (y)

Nice drips Alan, I found it becomes a bit addictive!

Did you use a flash off camera?

Yes mate.

For the first one i had the flash about 20 cm from a shiny pink ring binder and held a blue ring binder leaning over the side to add some blue.

For the second i used a gelled flash pointing more or less straight back towards the camera.

Cheers
Alan

An ordinary object to create the unexpected .......... of sorts.

It at least gave me the opportunity to research how to make images pop out the frame so, an image of my son (far from ordinary..... more subnormal) in an out of bounds. Probably not quite what the theme is but i have at least had another learning experience from the ETC challenge.

Cheers

Hi Alan, I've come to catch up. Sorry it's took so long, I will try to be more interactive from now on.

Bloody hell, you've been busy!

Harris shutter effect, very effective and quite wierd! good idea to use the glass/water combination.

Your first joiner has made me quite jealous. I would LOVE to do one this well. I know you are not overly happy with it but to me it is simply superb. The others (for me) are not joiners at all but I do like the effect you have achieved.

Tulip - doesn't scream "zoom burst" to me but it is a Lovely image all the same. With the bear you have nailed the technique, but they lack the interest of the tulip.

Multiplicity: You have come up with a good idea there, I can see some slight exposure differences between the shots and (as Graham - the pixel peeper! - says) there is evidence of masking which lets it down a little but overall I like it.

The duo tone image: I like how you have processed this but I'm not keen on the subject matter (I can't tell whats going on) I would like to see more contrast on the "subject" and less on the handrail tbh. sorry to be negative.

High speed: You nailed it 10 out of 10! frozen perfectly and I love the range of "whites". Just Ace!

Bubbles: Kind of disturbing... Porno colours! (says more about me than you mate) sorry to hear about the furniture, made me laugh though!

Dear Photograph: Well that's just lovely. Who couldn't be touched by this. Awwwww, y'big softy! ;)

Motion Blur: what is it? Sorry It's lost on me this shot...

Water splashes: Nice progress from No.1 to No.2 I guess this sort of thing has an element of luck (to get the shape) do you know what has caused the "orange peel" texture in the second one?

Ive never done a "pop out" but if I ever do I hope its as good as yours

Keep it up mate. (y)

Thanks Brian..... Welcome back.

I just love the porno comment, so much so ive just spluttered Carling over my keyboard LMAO.

The motion blur believe it or not is a spinning poker chip. I was hoping to catch the spinning action but obviously enough it wasn't going to happen as the chip was spun across the frame. As i photographed it from the top all i was going to get....... and got..... was a white blur. Although not what i anticipated it still thought it to be peculiarly odd to include it.

As for the orange peel effect i assume it to be where the water hasn't settled from the continual drops or maybe some kind of refraction from the see through container i used?

Thanks for dropping by and hope you come back soon mate.
