Who would be you're second choice lens manufacturer other than Nikon? (this is aimed at Nikon users, but I suppose could apply to Canon too)

In otherwords, say you have a Nikon D300 and you love to buy 'the best' Nikon lenses for you Nikon camera....BUT you can't quite afford them, who would be you're next favourite?

Just curious......

ive always been partial to a Tamron :)

I have both the sigma 70-200 f2.8 and 100-300 f4, both were bought from the classifieds on here. I am very happy with both lenses, although money played a big part in my choices. I haven't tried a Tamron yet;). If money wasn't a big part of the decision I would probably choose Nikon 1st.

i was really put off tamron after buying the 70-300 when i really didnt know what i was buying. but quite fancy a 17-50 2.8 now after seeing what it can produce

so tamron :)

Sigma for the value for money and their ability to fill gaps in Canon's line-up. If you want a sharp f/1.4 AF lens wide open on Canon < 85mm, you need to go to Sigma (30 1.4 and 50 1.4).

I also have the tamron 28 75 f/2.8 and am very impressed by the optics on that lens, although it's not built as bombproof as Canon's f/2.8 zooms, but then again it's significantly cheaper and lighter.

For me its Tamron.

I find they just put out some exceptional optics.

Sigma also make some blinders - their 30mm f/1,4 50mm f/1.4 and 150mm macros.

Tokina only have two good lenses - the 12-24 f/4 (the 11-16 is supposed to be good so I've heard too), and the sublime 100mm macro.

From a canon user...

i had always favoured sigma. that was based on the tamron 70-300 i had on my old camera which i thought was very cheaply made.

after buying a 17-50, i would probably favour Tamron now!

I've got the 150mm sigma macro and the 11-16 Tokina and they are both pretty good. Don't look to choose one third party manufacturer over another on a general basis, instead weigh each case up on a lens by lens basis.

Sigma, as long as its not one of their 'friday' lenses. Would love all Nikon Pro glass, sadly he that pays the bills doesn't share the same veiw, so the majority of my lenses are Siggies finest. However, if I was looking for lenses in the paticular range, I would certainly consider the Tamron and Tokina specials mentioned above.

Sigma, EX for preference.
Off the top of my head, I have 3 Nikon lenses (50mm, 180mm, 70-300mm VR), 5 Sigmas (8mm, 12-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, 150-500mm), I Tamron (90mm Macro) and a Cosina 19-35mm (bought as a SWA for use on film before I got the 12-24).
