40D at the moment, try and get 50D? Is it right for my glass?

Right, here is the score

I have a 40D and its got a fault, I have had it for 7 weeks and I spoted the fault on day one and got a promise that the camera would be replaced. The fault is on the focus screen or after this point and does not interfere with the shots but it is irritating.

Two weeks ago I phoned the retailer (AGAIN) and was told the replacement would arrive last week, its still not here and no word from the retailer. I don't mind too much because I'm going to get a brand new camera and I have been using the one I have, but I am starting to get annoyed.

Someone suggested the other day that I ask them if they will compensate me by an upgrade to a 50D if I offer to meet them half way. So ~£170 from me for the 50D

Previously the 50D was out of my price range but the pause due to this issue and a possible deal means I could probably afford it makes it potentially affordable.

However my current glass is

Sigma 17-70
Canon 70-200
50mm 1.8

The question I supose is are my pictures going to get worse of better with the 50D, I'd hate to upgrade even if it is for half the normal difference and get worse results that I am at the moment. I know the 50D needs goood glass and I'm very very happy with the 40D.

Opinions?

Thanks in advance

I think the 50mm and the 70-200 will be the bee's knee's. Cant comment on the 17-70mm. I love my 50d though.

hmmm

apparently it will be there on Friday for collection MMonday so it might not be an issue but I have to go up there on Sunday anyway so if its not there I'm thinking I could push my point and get the 50D as a replacement with some money from me.

Thanks Euan the 17-70 is the weak point in my arsenal, very good on the 40D but maybe not good enough for the 50D. If its there on Sunday for collection then its not an issue, if not then I still might save my pennies for L glass :D

Lets put it this way - the lenses won't make your pictures worse with a 50d. I have a 50d, which I really like, and I have made sure that I have good glass to go with it. Does that make me a better photographer? I would say not, it's just my preference.

There are some excellent pics out there taken on point and shoots for heavens sake - Of course it won't make you take worse pics :)

I'd go for the 50D but that's just me. If you don't get it, you'll continue wanting it!

GOOD LUCK:thumbs:
