was playing around with 18-55 lens and 55-300 lens last night indoors, and i could'nt work out when the 55-300 lens was at 55 it would'nt focus at same distance i had been using 18-55mm at 55mm

Most lenses have a different minimum focus distance

18-55 Kit lenses tend to focus closer than most. Zoom lenses on the whole usually don't focus as close, when they do, they are often labelled as "macro" even though they aren't.

Check the lens specs online and it will tell you it's minimum focus distance.
