I've not tried it, but it's probably inadvisable.
I suspect you may end up with a streak of cleaning fluid residue 2/3 of the way across the sensor which will be harder to get rid of in PP than dust.
You might be lucky and mop that up with a sensor pen afterward if it is a real emergency, but once you've committed you can't do it properly without the right size swab.
e2a: I'll wait for someone to tell me they've done this successfully.

Nooooooo get the right size swabs, I believe there's some FF ones cheap in the trade classifieds section.
