5d mk2 + 70-200 strange problem

This one is strange. At least to me. When I put my 70-200 on the camera and use any other than central AF point, it tends to miss focus slightly.

It doesn't happen with any other lens on that body. And also it doesn't happen every time.

It is quite annoying because sometimes I end up with plenty of blurry focus photos if I use that lens and body combination.

Anybody heard about something like that before?
 
Mki or mkii or the f4? From what I remember on the 5Dmkii the centre point is a cross type where as the others are single.
 
It's the f4 non IS one.

Yes the center is cross. I don't have that problem with any other lens on that body though.
 
Have you knocked the lens or the camera at all? The MKII doesn't have micro adjustments if I remember correctly.

No, both are in perfect condition.

Mk2 does have micro adjustments and I have adjusted it few months ago when I first noticed the problem. However, because the centre point works fine I don't think it is this.

If I keep micro adjusting it will start missing the centre point as well.

I don't use the lens very often, hence I wasn't too bothered about it before, but now there is a possibility I will be using this combo more.

I was hoping somebody have heard or read about similiar problem before and could point me in the right direction.
 
Ah ok it does have the adjustment then. Maybe worth trying it and see where it's at. If it's within the 20+/- then it's fine

I've never heard of this issue on that combo yet. Failing all that if it were me, I'd send it into canon and get them to adjust the lens to the body.

Might be worth trying the camera on a tripod against a fixed target, and using the micro adjust to test what the setting is on centre and other AF positions. If they are different, but not a mile apart, find an average setting between them. At the very least, you'll be able to ascertain if there is a repeatable discrepancy between them, which you can use to convey the problem to Canon should that be necessary.
 
I've similar problem with my F4 IS and mark2. I've micro-adjusted to the middle of 70-200 range, but because I always use either 70 or 200, the microadjust seems a bit pointless.

I don't think there's anything else we could do, apart from pay the price to send the combo to Canon for calibration.

I think I'll just stick to centre point and recompose for now and see how it goes.

Worth trying with a diff body just to make sure it is surely the lens, for peace of mind :) I've had a similar issue with long lennses but on a Nikon body where it didn't focus accurately
