Sorry I couldn't find anything with the search function.

Is there still no solution to the official battery conundrum?
How do people get on with the batteries which don't show how much power they have in them?

I'm going to Scotland and its threatening to be very cold and i can't pay £60 a battery when I need 5 or 6.

That's a serious number of shots without being near a mains outlet!

Last Saturday I took just over 300 images on the Brecon Beacons Loony Meet; used about half a battery.
On my Week in Snowdonia I took 1500 images and only charged the battery twice; both of those were for peace of mind as neither were out of charge.
The LP-E6 is claimed to hold charge in cold conditions better than a traditional battery; seems to live up to the hype...
I've never used my spare battery, even on photographic long weekends away. Only time I've ever changed battery during the day was when I had forgotten to charge it from the previous heavy weekend's abuse.

The only thing I know that flattens batteries fast is long exposures. A full battery probably only gives about 3 hours with the shutter open.

I use 2 extra OEM batteries. They looklike, are packaged like and function fully like genuine ones. They even give battery serial numbers and life left indecations.
 
you missed amazon couple weeks back had them cheap i have 4 batteries now.

Get around 2-3000 shots on 2 batteries in the grip in the studio they do last a long time, I think 4 is overkill but they where cheap lol.

The only thing wrong is they don't have serial numbers, so you can't manage them. They do give battery life though.

They're what I use! I don't quite get the 'management' thing that you can do with the official ones, so don't really feel like I'm missing out. They last as long, charge in the same charger, and show how much charge is remaining on the little battery icon. :)

It's so you can have a bag full of batteries and (once registered to your camera) decide how much charge they have, when the last time you used it in the camera (and so judge if the charge is likely to be held) and how good they are at being recharged without having to put them in the camera to tell. All goes up in the air if you have two bodies and share batteries between them of course ;)
 
Argos online have the canon battery at £ 29.99 in stock at the moment.
 
Yeh, they are always cheap when they are out of stock and not so cheap when they come back into stock :nono:
