Let's flip the question then - what help can you offer based on what Ric's asked? Where does he say he's looking to fine tune it because he's disappointed with the results?

Seriously? This thread gets more daft by the minute.

Again, unless the OP asks by telling us what he intends to use the camera for you may as well post the manual to him. Your OS question is a good one - if I have mine configured for gaming response it's not much use if you want it configured for image editing is it.....

Is asking for more information really not obvious?

KayJay, I have upgraded from 400D as well and I am definitely loving the move to 5D2 (yet keeping my 400D for wide angle shot as i'm in lack of fund to get a wide angle for FF atm :p). I really have to shout the viewfinder is so big, bright and nice. ISO3200 is very useable and this opens up a lot more shooting opportunities. the only thing I can't do as good as the 400D is to use the alternative focus points as they are not scattered as far as on the 400D relatively. so I had trouble in getting the composition right with moving object. the only way to improve this is to use a wide zoom and crop it on the computer afterwards. what do you think?

You've got 2 D3's and a D700. Why are you even in this thread? What do you need more info for? He's already said thanks for the initial responses.

No, because unless you know what the person asking the question is trying to do it's impossible to answer.

Now, take a look at the differences in the CF areas available to the 5D II user and ask yourself what simply listing them does?

Oh I see, you have to have the camera to suggest that more information might be useful?

A question for you - do you not think the OP's question would be answered better by knowing what he's trying to achieve. And again, how does you listing your config without a) stating what you use it for, and b) knowing what he wants to achieve, helping?

I've not had that problem yet to be honest. I've shot moving people with a 17-40L which I've had to crop sometimes, but for the most part if they are central to the frame then distortion is controlled and you can crop the rest but you have to get in real close.





Both uncropped.

I know what you mean though, of course a little bit of info as to the purpose of the settings would be good to give a more indepth response. But don't you think you're over reacting just a little bit? It'd be nice to hear a bit more from the OP in this thread though. See what they are up to and trying to achieve.

Ah... Have you tried using a 5D2 with a tele lens chasing after animals like swans? Try it, if you aim to just focus in one swan and compose you will get what i mean. you can never put it at the rule of thirds position at all LOL

Otherwise, 5D2 is absolutely brilliant. It could be a little bit bright to my liking sometimes with AV mode but it's just something I need to get used to with a different camera :)

Camera settings are fun to play with. Sometimes you may have stuck with your own brilliant settings too much that you have missed out the wide variety of shots you could actually do on the same camera. So getting to know what the others do is one way to help. Also, I always thought I was the best but there is always someone wiser and better out there to beat me!! damn real world :bang: so, if there are some answers here, sit back, relax and try them all out guys ;)

Can't agree more. It's just a different learning path. With a low-end camera with more restrictions, you learn taking best shots with the restraints; with a high-end camera, you have loads of opportunities to take good shots, but you need to restrict your choices sometime to focus on an area to develop your skills there :woot:

I think some people are big enough to learn by asking too....a big majority of the threads in the equipment section are questions.

It's perhaps indicative of how people are perceiving that TP has changed over time, that when I asked the same question around 14 months ago (as the OP has asked here) it was politely answered without fuss or fanfare.... http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=41338

How cool is that :thumbs: not only to have had a premonition that a 5D mark II was being released, but to have known what features were going to have been on it almost a year before the camera was released, Canon Bob is a very apt name. :p

I suspect there are a few people thinking what I've posted. The way that anyone who questions anything here gets shouted down for 'being negative' is probably the reason they're not saying so.

Here's a question for everyone. Do you think the OP would have been better served by asking a more specific question? And do you think that asking for more information is 'fuss and fanfare'?

And furthermore, do you think that the OP would have been better served by meeting that request for information which would now doubt have left him with a clearer idea of what to do (rather than lists of others' settings) instead of saying 'won't be asking any more questions, can't be arsed'?

Er...I made no reference to your posts in this thread and had no cause to do so. I quoted Britco's statement about learning from mistakes...his method but perhaps not preferred by all. I don't consider it the least bit disingenuous when pertaining to the quoted post.
