From a videographers standpoint, the swivelling LCD screen is fantastic. I don't see how it is much use to a photographer though, since the camera is stuck with contrast detection AF in live view which takes an eternity. Sure you can switch it to quick mode but it's cumbersome - it flips the mirror down, uses phase detection AF, flips the mirror back up once it has a lock...but as far as I know you can't set the focus point so it'll just use any and you may not get the results you want.
Personally I never shoot stills in live view, it's a gimmick to me.
The 550D is a great beginner camera, I'd say I use mine harder than the average 550D owner and it performs very well. Plus you can get them very cheap now, under £450 for the body or so I've been told.
I would but like I said the lack of fast autofocus puts me off. In the type of photography I do, I don't have time to wait 3-4 seconds for it to lock![]()
do you mean on the 550d?
was a big improvment i found when i upgrade my glass from the EF/s 50-250is lens to my 70-200mm L lens
it depends how steady your hands are, iv not realy had a prob if its been dark like it was on wrc then i bumped iso up and sutter speed and not had a problem. There is a IS version of the 70-200mm L F/4 lens but its almost an extra £400, and idd when u do upgrede you cam not mutch point of getting 600d as you still be on same FPS as the 1100d same as my 1000d you better off gowing for xxD range like mike said above. same reason im saving for the 60d now.
check my wrc thread you can see the pic that i got from the lens with out IS and in dim conditions

To be honest i plan on concentrating on wildlife photography which is why the canon 400mm f5.6 L is a long term lens (hopefully just after xmas) i`ve also got a hide and ghilli suit, but if the 600d isn`t going to be much better perhaps i`ll have another think, i did see some canon !d mk2`s for sale but again my lack of knowledge may let me down,HarveyRuffdog64, what sort of thing do you shoot?
I would have thought that maybe the better fps of the xxD range would be an advantage to you?
