Yes
in two minds with the lens options;

60d with 18- 135mm

60d with 18-55 + 55-250mm

would the double kit be a better option, they are both around the same price.
my thinking is with the 135 and later buy a longer lens. either way i will be getting a 10-20 sigma.

which would be the better option for a keen novice.
thanks

What prices have you been quoted?

I personally would go body only, I actually have gone body only. Not had a chance to use the cam yet though! :)

well the 18-135 is optically better than that of the 18-55 so as a main walk around lens you will have better sharpness and contrast in your photos. also, the extra length you get helps in not having to change lens as much.

if this isn't your first slr and are definitely planning on the 10-20mm i would probably go with that and a 50mm f1.8 then wait for a telephoto. a few of my friends run with that set-up and it works quite well.

as hope says
body only is the best option. as this opens you up to things like 18-50mm f2.8 glass from sigma and tamron.

reply to hope
camera is awesome, no-one came into my shop for two hours this morning, was just solidly playing with it, never thought i would love a moveable screen.

body only 620
i have no lenses, this is my first dslr.

went to wildings again today (jessops were closed) and they still have`nt got a 60 in .
i will have to go to further afield next week to have a feel of the 60d, the 550 is to light for me.

Yup it does feel really well built, it isn't as 'cold' as the 40/50D because it isn't metal but I was worried it would be alot more plasticy, but it isn't.

I would go for the Body only to be honest. Definitely. My Nifty Fifty will be going soon too :D But in all seriousness, once you have a kit lens, the next purchase should be the 50mm for sure, it really differentiates between a point and shoot and an SLR with its F1.8

if your buying a lens anyway get body only, i got the 18-135 with my 7d and wish i didnt really. used it again yesterday and its so noisy when focusing nothing like the 28-300L or the 10-20.

you can pick up a 10-20 for £300 ish so only £100 more than the kit lens.

thanks lads.

phil, what camera shops do you recommend in manchester, i have had no luck in warrington.

i got mine from jessops online, not really had many dealings with camera shops TBH, got friendly with a guy who worked in a jessops a while ago so got discount on stuff but doesnt work there anymore.

london camera exchange are pretty good, had very good dealings with the ones in derby went into the manchester store and was good just couldn't understand what the guy was saying.

I'd be inclined to go for body only, but what do you mainly want to photograph? That, more or less, defines the lens choices.

The nifty fifty (f1.8, 50mm) is cheap, quite fast, offers remarkably good IQ for the price, and has the build quality of an Airfix kit. 50mm was the standard/walk around lens on 35mm film cameras, but it has the same FOV as an 80mm lens on a Canon crop camera, so think about this. Personally, I find it far too long for everyday use, and much too short for a telephoto - although it is a handy length for portraits. Consider a fast 30mm if you want a 50mm equivalent.
