A comparison of super-phones

I have an iPhone, I use it for pleasure and work and run a Mac at home and subscribe to MobileMe. For me it's the perfect solution to everything I need.

However, I have to say that jailbreaking it has made the experience that much better, it opens it up a whole lot more.

I was looking at the Hero for my wife who can get an upgrade next week with Orange, I still think the whole pricing thing for the iPhone sucks, Orange had a chance to open things up but it looks like they've agreed to play it safe with O2 and let the preference of the customer be the deciding factor. I would guess Vodafone will do the same.

I have to admit though, I do like the look of the Palm Pre as well.

The Hero may be a very good phone (I've got one) but its not got quite the iphone wow factor.

However, my Hero cost £ 100 on a new 18m contract at £ 25/m and to get an iphone on T-Mobile (o2 coverage poor where I live and work, Orange not much better) would cost a lot and involve jailbreaking.

You mean the "I've got an iPhone and am going to wave it in your face!"?

I've had that more than once and it's a little annoying...

Have a look at the HD2 as someone else already mentioned, also the SE Xperia X10 which is an Android phone and coming out in Feb (quite a long way I know).

With regards to the iPhone "killer" phones there have been 3 in my opinion, the HD (released 1 year ago), the Hero and the HD2. The X10 also looks like an "iPhone killer" as well. What gets me (as this is a price thread) is that all the phones sim free are around the same price, however the iPhone on contract is waaaaay more expensive, go figure...

More and more people are using their phone like a much more portable computer. I want to be able to 'minimize' the web browser, write a text, put on a bit of music and then come back to the web browser where I left off.

I agree, that's what I do all the time on my HD, also if you want to copy and paste from the web browser to an email you are writing...?

The other thing about the iPhone is that you are tied to iTunes, which to me is the spawn of Satan and very counter intuative. However the main problem is that AFAIK you have to have iTunes installed on every machine you want to connect the iPhone to. If you want to do mobile internet through you phone on someones laptop they will need to install iTunes, copy things too and from a phone, itunes and loads more. With my HD it's literally a case of plugging it in and choosing file transfer or internet on the phone (which comes up automatically), click file transfer and file explorer opens up on the PC (like sticking a USB stick in) and click internet and windows will install a driver (no need to connect to the net) and automatically connect your phone to the internet. How android works I'm not too sure, similar to WM I think.

This is actually very simple to do on the iPhone. As is closing down the web browser and returning to that page, it reopens the last page you were looking at.

The problem with iPhone bashers is that a large percentage of them don't actually know what the iPhone is and isn't capable of.
