Hi'yall.

Seriously thinking of changing sides again :bonk:
If I did, I'd be looking at probably a Canon 40D.

Zoom lens wise, I'd want a 70-200mm F4 L, but really need to know if this lens is sharp @ F4. Using my Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 @ F4 is very sharp indeed.
So that's question #1!!

#2 is what mid range zoom would be best? Something along the lines of 24-70 ish, pretty fast say, F4 but again would be to be very sharp at F4.
Not really interested in any F5.6 lenses, but the Sigma 10-20mm is a deffo on my list!

Could I have your expert advice please :)

the F4L is just fantastic, the IS even more so. Ditto for the 24-70 F2.8.

EDIT: although that said I don't get on with my 70-200 as it's colour draws too much attention for my liking.

can i ask why your switching again?

mid zoom, how about a 24-70 or 24-105?

perhaps even a canon/tamron/sigma 17-50?

Thanks guys.
Just thinking of switching. I probably won't, as I can't really be bothered with all the posting and buying etc.
But thinking about it because I think it's fun. Learning a new system and looking for lenses and gear etc is all part of the hobby, for me.
Some people think that's insane. I don't!!!!

Is there a 24-70 or 24-105 F4 L??
Don't really need F2.8 lenses, if I can get very sharp lenses at F4 if you know what I mean?!
But I deffo wouldn't rule out the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 or Tamron 17-50 F2.8 as I've used them both and they are great.

Well if you fancy selling it, im on the lookout for one :whistling:

Nope back on topic i agree totally, i like finding out about the technology involved in making the pictures possible so your definately not alone.

Thanks Euan.
And good luck with looking for your 70-200!!

Thanks, just got the F4 but im after the IS version. A bit like rocking horse s@*t second hand! but all part of the fun eh.

lol The 70-200 f4 is as sharp as a tack! and the 24-105 is probably the best walk around lens known to man (or woman!) and the 24-70 is fab and the 17-40 f4 is absolutely gorgeous and the 85mm f1.8 is sublime and such good fun, then there is the 35mm f2.........Macros and tilt shifts.......

Do I really need to say more? :)

Come over to the dark side Andy. You can pick on those Nikon boys at the meets then :) I have the 24-105 L and a 40D if youf ancy having a go let me know. I can't find a soft spot anywhere on the 24-105.

I did actually start going down this route last year, and had a Canon 40D and the 5D MKII.

I thought the 40D was cack frankly - and none of the lenses seemed as good as the Nikon ones (particualarly the 300mm f/4). The 5D MKII seemed quite good, although I have to say my Sony A900 is much better as a landscape camera.

I got rid, and stayed Nikon (will a dabble into Sony now)

IMHO moving from a D200 to a Canon 40D would be like moving from Caviar to a cup of cold sick.

Repeat after me....

Err99......Err99.....Err99.....Err99.....

Yeah, like that is SUCH a common occurence flash. 3 Canon cameras, three years of hammering the heck out of them and not one has missed a beat.

Not saying it never happens but it would not be the first time I've seen a crocked Nikon either. :suspect:

Hiya matey. Haven't heard from you for a while.
Thought you'd left us and gone PRO

:D

That would be tremendous Dave. Just been looking at the 24-105 and looks like just what I'd want. But then I noticed the bloody price

A decent body and the 24-105 would just about wipe me out :(

No you hadn't actually :D

All I've ever heard about the 70-200 F4 is good things.
And the price is very good too!!

The 70-200 f/4 is an excellent lens.

Probably one that Nikon owners would like most.

at 1/500 sec f6.3 ISO200

And that is one quick dog. :)

Had the 1Ds on shutter priority because I knew I needed at least 1/500 to freeze the dog, so camera gave me f6.3. :) It was a dull day so I wanted to keep the ISO down as much as possible and f6.3 worked just fine.

Nice answer. Thanks :D

Seems pretty obvious now.........

:bonk:

No worries, I'm a simple soul and like to keep things as simple as possible. It saves confusing myself :)

It is very common, I had it once on my 300d once, but never with
my 20d,30d,40d,1dmk2,1dmk2N,1dsmk2 or 1dmk3 so it must be very commom.:D
