I finally got a pic of the heron in the pond up the road before it flew off, secound time its done that :razz:

That first one has a soft vertical stripe down it - like you had a blade of grass in front of the lens? Shame as you have got a great shot there with the reflection like it is.

Very high contrast in that last one. Might improve it with a HDR treatment ?

Nice heron shot. The second one, as RobertP says is a little too contrasty so the detail has been lost in the shadows.

#1 is the better of the 2, maybe a touch more USM on it?

Ally, hope you don't mind i had very quick play with the second one, just tweaked the curve and sharpened very slightly.

Lost the colour on the wing a bit but for a quick go you get the idea

That's very nearly a great shot of the Heron Ally ... little washed out and a niggly fuzzy bit evident ... but a great pose of a difficult to shoot bird ... good one ...

The Black-Headed Gull is not so good though ... no head detail to speak of ... but as ppp shows it is there and can be brought out better ... just takes a bit of time ... would make a decent shot though ...

Thanks for all the comments guys, I can't remember anything being in front of the lens , I'm gonna get a cracking shot of that heron if it kills me!
