A level art photography

Hello I'm looking some help on things I could photograph to do with the topic 'old'. This is a topic I have chosen because it can be expanded over a multiple of catagories. I've got my own list of ideas to photograph but I'm looking some more ideas or photographers which I could base some research on? Any help would be much appreciated

That's a massively broad topic

What type of photography appeals to you? - it might help people to come up with ideas.
A couple of thoughts for different photography styles :

Nature : Summer's starting to come to an end - plenty of dried leaves and dead flowers around here.

Portraiture : Elderly faces with interesting craggy wrinkles.

Architectural : Gothic Graveyards do it for me, but tons of old buildings

Urbex : Most things in this genre would fit I think

Still Life : aged wine / cheese or take a visit to your local museum.
My personal favourite (time permitting) would be to start with a bowl of fruit and present a series of shots showing it starting to decay in a sort of time lapse fashion :shrug:

Please tell us what ideas you have already so that we can perhaps help you to expand on those ideas. Brainstorming is always best when you have a starting-point to work from...

Otherwise this just looks suspiciously like another of those tiresome: "tell me what to photograph so I don't have to think about it" threads...

I agree with Rob - more than happy to take your idea and work with it but I'm not up for doing all the thinking for you.

I'm also up for investigating the theme along the right lines but could use some guidance.

I'm also thinking of selenium/cyanotypes etc. Old ways of toning prints that you could add to the subject matter.

Sorry, I was in a rush.. I can be clearer now.. I'd been thinking more personal things because I feel I could be inspired more easily and take an interest more easily, here are some of the subjects I'd been thinking off:

Old delipated buildings
Old money
Old furniture
Old plants/leaves/petals
Visably old animals
Using photography as my topic I'd also have to edit the photographs so this will have to happen even though I'm not a fan of overly editing my photos. I love the idea of toning prints and a time lapse series I'd be leaning towards the old animals approach because I love capturing photos of animals and I've taken photos of animals for the last 2 years of various art topics but this year I'm dedicating the whole topic to just photography, this means no drawing, and this means my photos will have to be 'really' good but I think this is more than achievable

Ok - now we have something to work with.

I can understand why you would want to go down the photo's of animals route but depending on how many shots you have to produce it could be difficult to inject a bit of variety / interest. What exactly is the criteria? Is it a series of shots?

I personally would go for some kind of social commentary on what it means to be old. You have excellent subjects if your grandparents are willing to play ball. If I were you I'd sit down with your grandparents and talk to them about how they feel about growing older - the conversation could throw up some interesting ideas for you to work with. Or read some articles like this one:

and see if that sparks some inspiration.

You could I suppose look at what it means to be an older animal in a rescue shelter.

for my photography final project (NCFE) my theme was 'forgotten' which isn't too far away from 'old'

here's a few more ideas for you :

old money
old keys
nostalgic things like button boxes and saved things (if you know anyone who was alive during WW2 they probably save everything!!! even their old ration books and war uniforms/medals)
museums can be good - find one with old aircraft (southampton has one if you are close enough) and old airfields can be very interesting with the correct processing.
Old vehicles - scrapyards - though I don't know if health and safety regs would prevent you from visiting them
have you got any old toys that you've hung on to? they can be very interesting (such as dinky toys or a deflated and cobwebbed spacehopper - you could get some interesting textures

Considering the old animals theme it may be worth finding out if there is an animal sanctuary near you. They could have older animals that they have taken in

I now have the urge to go and shoot and old pair of boots and do a selenium print! lol
