I've been looking a lot of photographs lately and I was wondering how I tell if a photography is in focus or not.

Now I can tell when photographs have good or bad focus (ie blurred), but was wondering how you tell if a photograph is truly in focus.

Not sure if I've explained this well....??

Thanks.

 Is this regarding your own photo's or ones that your viewing on TP??

I think it's both?

I must admit at times looking on the C&C forums people say it's out of focus and I can't see it, but I imagine it's just experience :) It's easier to see for me on things like flowers or birds than skies/landscapes/water shots. Is that what you mean posiview?

Hi, apologies for the misunderstanding.

I was talking about all photographs, including my own (attempts!)

I agree, when I look at pictures they seem in focus then someone else will say they aren't, maybe it comes with experience..

Thanks.

The only way to tell if the subject is truly in focus is when you can see that the sharpest area is somewhere else either in front or behind the subject, ie not where it should be.

Sometimes it's hard to tell, depending on the subject. Poor focusing also gets confused with camera shake which can also cause similar blurring.

Post a pic and we'll probably be able to identify the problem.
