I'm hoping that someone on here, or a friend of a friend of a friend of someone on here can help me find a copy of an old advert.

The advert in question was printed in news papers some years before WWII.....yes thats right.. but it must surely have been scanned in by someone and posted on the net by now!!!

It was to advertise the coming of the SS

Now, a car enthusiast will know that Swallow sidecars went from building motorcycle sidecars and started to build some of the most beautiful and successful cars to date.......still lost?

Well, they changed their name after the war to Jaguar

Now to the ad image in question

It featured the headline "WAIT...the SS is coming" and had a picture of a rather stern looking bloke holding out his hand as if to stop someone.:eek::eek:

Things were a bit of a spooky glimpse of what was to come a few years later I think as the badge for SS cars in those days looked very similar to the Nazi eagle, that along with the SS moniker and the stern looking geezer is enough to make you shiver.

Someone pleeeeeeease help me find it :help::help::help:

Silly question but you have tried all the search engines DF..

Tim

I've checked all the main ones :(

I'm hoping Glo or CT will maybe able to suggest something as they are mid-landers.

I've been having a look mate but my Google Wu has got the droops.

Jaguar enthusiast sites might be the sort places to ask?

Cheers CT

Feel free to have another look when you get 5, maybe there'll be something on a midlands local history site.

I've looked on a couple of sites, but non went back as far as the SS years, with E's and XJ's etc being the mainstay of the older stuff

Hmmm!
Im stumped tbh!
If the Jag sites dont come up with anything, I can check out the local history books next time I hit the shops... unless you have any other ideas for me to check out.

Aye, 31/32

It was used in national newspapers irrc.

you'd have thought that it would have been posted somewhere out of sheer irony at some point.

Glo, I could really do with an online image as i need to borrow it :naughty:

I have the phone number for a company that was at goodwood that specialises in old car brochures, advertising etc. I may have some stuff to sell him, but he may also have what you want, though at a price I imagine [not much use if you want to borrow it]. I can pm it to you if you like, I believe they are based in the east midlands.

Well if Ian's link doesnt come up trumps, Ill have a look in the book shop anyway.
If I see it, Ill buy the book for aunty, and scan it before I realise she never wanted a local history book for her birthday after all! ;)

I've not mailed them Ian, but I did spend an hour or so on there looking at the screenshots of their collections

thanks so far all. (y)

Go to the library and have a rifle through the archives, loads of stuff there. Most will let you take photos of stuff...

thanks for the help guys, it means a lot to me.

still drawing a blank though :(

Found lots of referals to it on some obscure japanese historical car sites, but nothing to show for it yet.

i managed to narrow it down to first appearing in print in july 1931 before the British motorshow, but thats when the trail went cold

Find it boy........before I introduce you to my friend ...... pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

how could i ever ignore you glo?

oh....wait, you never speak to me :D......so it's easy :D

i've been looking for this image for almost 2 weeks......how do I feel........:bang: :bang:
